LVO Clubmark Award

Two weeks ago Juls Hanvey (Active Clubs Coordinator) and I attended the SportNI Sportmaker Awards 2018 Celebration Event in the Titanic Centre. The main business of the evening was to present awards to a number of coaches and club officials, but we were one of a number of clubs to receive our Clubmark NI award. It was a slickly organised event – for the main awards, a video describing the winner’s achievements was played as they were presented with the award, followed by short interview. Clubmark is Northern Ireland’s quality standard for sports clubs. The programme aims to identify, develop, Read More …

Updated Tables

The Colour Standards table has been updated, and the interim Spring Cup table created, following the exertions last weekend at Belfast Castle. They can be found at “Resources>LVO Public Folders>Colour Standards” and “Resources>LVO Public Folders>Club Colour Series” respectively. To achieve a colour standard you need three results within a 12-month period; the Spring Cup is based on place points with your 2 best performances to count.

Sporteering on Wednesday!

We’re off Sporteering again on Wednesday! It’s a 60min urban score on a 1:5000 urban O map. If you have been before then you will know the set up, but if not then it’s very important that you read all the details for the session which are on the fixtures listing on the LVO website here: https://lvo.org.uk/allfixtures/club-night-running-training-11/

Table Updates

I am currently analysing last Saturday’s Belfast Castle results in order to update the Colour Standards table and produce an initial Spring Cup table. By my reckoning there were 3 folk on the green course who have not yet renewed their membership for 2019 and to whom I cannot therefore assign any points. You can check your current status by going to “Resources>LVO Public Folders>Colour Standards>Colour Standards.pdf”. Pink or Yellow highlighting and you’re in arrears.

2019 AGM Minutes

Geoffrey Collins has done his usual sterling job of simultaneous listening and writing to produce draft minutes of our AGM on Feb 3rd at Belvoir. Neither Geoffrey or I can remember who proposed and seconded the adoption of last year’s minutes. Please let secretary@lvo.org.uk know if you remember who did. The minutes are available on the website from Resources > Public Folders > AGMs > LVO AGM 2019 v1.docx Many thanks, Cecil

Gordie Mahood 1973 – 2019

It is with great sadness that we report the untimely passing of Gordie Mahood on 5th February. Gordie was an enthusiastic orienteer, a loyal member of Lagan Valley Orienteers and a dedicated organiser. Many will have last seen him at Tyrella in November, quietly ensuring that everything was properly organised in a way that would bring the most satisfaction to his fellow orienteers. Gordie has been living with cancer for a number of years, but still managed to contribute greatly to the orienteering community. He was a regular attender last summer of the WEE series in Belfast, introducing his son Harry Read More …
