Just a quick reminder to all that the venues for WEE 5 & 7 have swapped. Stormont for No.5 on the 5th June and UUJ for No.7 on the 19th. The more observant will have noticed this change was put up on the BOF (and hence master calendar) and the WEE website some time ago, but I somehow missed the LVO web page fixture list. Congratulations! Three LVO juniors have been selected to represent the Irish Orienteering Association at the European Youth Orienteering Championships (EYOC) in Belarus this summer. M16 Daniel Earnshaw, W16 Meadow McCauley, M18 Andrew Elwood. Thanks are due to the organisers, planners, coaches, fund-raisers…bun-bakers and cake-stall organisers…, funders (LVO, NIOA, local councils), selectors, mappers, map printers, committee and parents who provided the opportunities for the athletes to reach this level. Blockers ‘Blockers’ are things which get in the way of running a successful club and its development. At the LVO Strategy Workshop, after an introduction and presentation by Mike McClure of SportNI, see here, 3 groups of us identified the top blockers. In alphabetical order they were: Funding: events barely cover their costs. Mapping is expensive and maps have a very limited life span due to initiatives like bike trails and other refurbishments of parks or forests. The Scottish Champs are withing striking distance of Cairnryan on Saturday 25 May. The details are Solway Orienteers website with a closing entry date of 12 May. If we can car share using the 24 Stena day return deal we should be able to get there and back for less than £50 each, including a contribution for petrol. Introduction and presentation by Mike McClure On 24th April 2019, eighteen LVO members, two guests (Mike McClure of SportNI and Duane Fitzsimons of Belfast City Council) met for a workshop on the future direction of the club, led by guest coordinator Nathalie Foehr. FERMO are organising the Irish Orienteering Championships next weekend, but LVO are helping with the Relays at Parkanaur on Monday 6th May (https://ioc2019.com/relay/). A few people have already volunteered to help (or someone else has volunteered them), but we still need more for various roles, including: Marshalls – we’ll need at least 2-3 to man a few points on the course, including the gates on either side of the deer park.
