Tyrella Report – Junior Interregional Champs and Colour Series

Well done to all NI Junior team members battling against 168 of the best juniors from across the UK in some fantastic but challenging courses. A special mention to James Ewart who finished 9th in his first year as M14 and Anastasia who finished 10th in W16 – great runs! Later in the day the courses in Tyrella were opened up for a NI Colour Series event which entertained another 112 competitors including many visiting UK coaches, pitting their Read More …

Yet Another Table?

Health and mobility issues mean that I get my O-kicks sitting at a PC, printing your event maps and post-processing your results. The latter activity brings you the NI Series, the Club Colour Standards, Spring Cup and Autumn Trophy tables and the hCOW Colour and hCOW WEE scores and handicaps. From elsewhere you can get the BOF Rankings, the monthly WEE winners and, presumably on-the-way, the NI Urban League tables. All intended to help you compare yourself with others and yourself and so improve your O-skills. Well here comes another one! The more senior (i.e. old!) members may remember, in Read More …

hCOW Tables Updates

“Resources>OneDrive Public>hCOW>hCOW2022” The hCOW tables have been updated with the results from Tollymore. With 7 out of 12 events to count Moiré O’Sullivan looks to be in pole position, and Olivia Baxter and Kenny Weir make up the trio who are now able to drop their worst scores from the remaining events – incidentally Olivia and Kenny also compiled a full WEE Series set of scores. The event results are in “Event8.pdf”, the series positions are in “Series Table.pdf” and your handicap history is in “Handicap Table.pdf”. There’s also a further table “Regatta Table.pdf” which will run through the autumn’s Read More …

Don’t Miss Out on Tyrella

Tyrella is one of the best orienteering areas in Northern Ireland and so is convenient for those living around the Belfast and Newcastle areas, so don’t miss out! Entries to the NI Colour Series Event at Tyrella on Saturday 24 September now close in less than 7 days at midnight on Sunday 18 September. It is of course usual to also be able to offer Entry on the Day (at non member prices), or even late entries by email or phone, but for this location this is NOT POSSIBLE. Please read and understand the additional ID requirments to access the area, Read More …

Colour Standards Updated

“Resources>OneDrive Public>Colour Standards>Colour Standards.pdf” The Colour Standards table has been updated with the Tollymore results. The new colour, Short Blue, has been introduced as lying, unless someone tells me otherwise, between Blue and Green in the colour standards hierarchy. Congratulations to Anastasia Mahlych and Henry Montgomery as being the first to achieve Short Blue status. Even if you weren’t at Tollymore you may find that your status has changed as all of the 2021 Spring events now fall outside the 12-month window within which your counting results must fall.

Testing Tollymore – Summery Summary 🌲🌞🌳

With the sun splitting the trees, a beautiful day welcomed us all to the enjoy a great day out at Tollymore Forest Park for our first Autumn Trophy event. It was great to see so many out and especially nice to welcome some new comers. 👋 👍Meadow McCauley had planned some great courses for us all to run controlled by Mark Stephens, who unfortunately was unable to join us on the day. Dan Earnshaw did an amazing job setting everything up and getting people in place to help out, great job for a first time organiser! 👏Thanks to those who Read More …

WEST 2 Coaching

WEST 2 Coaching 14th Sep 22 Lady Dixon Park Last week’s WEST drew 29 supporters, a mix of seniors and juniors, advanced and novice, confident and the totally boggled! Olivia’s control description exercise provided a useful (and necessary it would seem) reminder about the value and importance of reading, understanding and remembering all the detail in a control description. This week in Lady Dixon Park we will work on developing all those skills. In order to make best use of the light we aim to start at 6.30pm from the top car park. The whole session should last about an Read More …
