Coaches  – Susan Lambe and Steph Pruzina Have you been orienteering for a little while?  But still (whisper it) a bit unsure how to get the best out of your compass?  Bit baffled by the wiggly brown contour lines?  Basically, is your control-finding a bit of a treasure hunt for orange & white flags?   A bit “sure it’s over there somewhere, I’ll figure it out when I get there”. You’re maybe quite good at Orange courses, but Read More …

First hCOW2022 tables published

The results from the first three colour events of the year have now been processed through the hCOW ringer and can be found at: “Resources>OneDrive Public>hCOW>hCOW2022” In addition to the event results an initial series table is included; it is in handicap order. The first two columns show the place points achieved (Gosford was used for setting initial handicaps); the number of events to count will be determined when the year’s colour event programme has been finalised. At the moment Ben Cairns is in pole position with a measly 8 points to his name! The last three columns show how Read More …

👏LVO Members Nominated for a British Orienteering Award👏

🎉Congratulations to Steph Pruzina, Mark Pruzina and Stephen Gilmore who have all been nominated for a British Orienteering Annual Award. 👏Mark has been nominated for the Development and Innovation award – this award is new this year and celebrates the efforts an individual, group or club has put into delivering a new programme or initiative which supports the growth of orienteering. Some of you may not know the work Mark and others do in the background with regard to setting up the on-line entries and payment systems which allows for the smooth running of events. He has also invented a clever radio control Read More …

Table Update post-Gosford

The Colour Standards table has been updated with the Gosford results. The criteria for determining colour standards varies from that used in the results publishing system so if you think you lost out have a look, you might be pleasantly surprised. The table also confirms your membership status; if you’re pink or yellow you are not currently a member so have not been assigned a colour standard or NISeries points. “Resources>OneDrive Public>Colour Standards” The NISeries table has gone for publication on the NIOA web site but you can find a copy here: “Resources>OneDrive Public>NI Series”

Club Relay Teams

It’s fast approaching the JK in Wales over the Easter weekend, followed by the Irish Orienteering Championships in the Killarney area over the May bank holiday weekend. Hopefully today’s sunshine is a sign of things to come. Susan Lambe & Olivia Baxter are once again co-ordinating club relay team entries. Once again we’re disorganised!! But it’ll all come together, be graaaaannd. The relays are on the Monday of each event, always a fun way for the clubs to finish the weekend. The legs may be tired but the craic is always excellent. Except possibly if there’s snow or horizontal rain………. Read More …

Tables Updated

The Colour Standards table has been updated with the Meelmore results. As Green is the highest standard so far achievable this year no-one has reached a higher standard under “2022 Standard” but the “Current Standard” column shows your present standard , which may have been achieved in 2021. “OneDrive Public/Colour Standards/Colour Standards.pdf” The interim tables for the Spring Cup have also been published. They are based on place points with 2 out of the 3 events to count. An innovation this year (requiring ratification by the Committee) is to allocate points to the event organising team members in a similar Read More …

Marvellous fun on Meelmore

So it was my pleasure to team up with Richard Williamson (Controller) and Stephen Knight (Organiser) to plan Saturday’s courses on Meelmore. Do you know, I really enjoyed myself. It’s a cracking orienteering area. We decided early on to use a small area – turns out this was a good call, as the Trassey River was fair bouncing along on the day, so at least no-one had an early bath. Well, okay, some of you might have – I hear some marshes were verging on the enthusiastic. I can see lots of you have put your adventures onto Routegadget already, Read More …
