Contour Training for Improving Orienteers/Fell Runners

Alan Elwood will be leading these coached sessions. Each session is planned to be in two parts: Part 1️⃣ – will involve about 35 minutes of technical coaching and Part 2️⃣- will have an training exercise/course for you to carry out. ❎2️⃣ There will be a double session on the 20th August which will include both a technical navigation session and a physical training session. 😢Juls leaving dos and don’ts

Do you Know? – you probably have heard that, after 6.5 years, Juls has finally [come to her senses / lost her mind]* and is moving on from her Development Officer role with NI Orienteering to working as the Outdoor Development Officer with Mid & East Antrim Borough Council. WEE Report on Six Mile Water

🌞 A beautiful sunny evening welcomed everyone who came along to Ballyclare for the first WEE of the June Series. 👋 It was great to see over 20 juniors and 30+ newcomers/non-members who took part either independently or in a friendship/family unit. Almost 60 entered competitively and the runners enjoyed a mix of flat park land and fast running around an urban housing estate. 🥇🥈🥉 Check out the new handicap league table. 👩‍🏫LVO Strategic Planning Workshop 

Many of you, during the Review stage, have contributed your thoughts and ideas, which we are very thankful for. This is just the beginning of the Strategic Plan and it is important that we all (the whole LVO membership) are aware of and continue to be part of this process. The LVO Committee and LVO members on the NIOA Committee have been invited to attend a strategic planning workshop to look at the results of the review. This meeting will be held on Saturday 17 June. I thought I might miss out thanking some people in my last post, but I can’t believe I missed out our Assistant Planners and Assistant Controllers – SORRY, forgiveness requested 🙏 Michael Burton supported Philip with the planning and indeed securing access to the grounds of the Planetarium. As if this wasn’t enough, he gave a presentation on the Cosmos the evening before the Sprint! ☘Emerald Isle O Festival and 🏆British Champs all wrapped up!

The dust is just about settling after an incredible 1️⃣0️⃣ days of orienteering in Ireland. ☘The Emerald Isle O Festival all started in Wicklow on Friday 28 April with the first day of the Irish Championships. LVO was very well represented and performed well with around 50 podium positions. During the week LVO hosted the UK Urban League on Thursday evening at Carrick and some Middle Distance training at Hillsborough on the Friday afternoon/evening. 🏰 Carrick saw 200 competitors running the streets. 📣Carrickfergus Urban Deadline Tomorrow!

A final call for anyone wishing to enter the urban race at Carrickfergus on Thursday 4 May. This is a brand new urban map (thanks Bill Simpson and Mid & East Antrim Council!) and it is the first time NI has hosted a UK Urban League event, so what’s there not to be excited about! Richard Hetherington, Paul Daniels and Richard McCourt have been busy organising and planning 7 different courses, so all ages and abilities are catered for.
