On Saturday 9th August, Lagan Valley Orienteers is hosting The Original Mourne Seven Sevens Challenge Walk and Race – our biggest fundraiser of the year. As you may know, the Seven Sevens is no ordinary challenge – it’s an 18-mile trek across all seven Mourne peaks over 700 metres, with over 2,500 metres of climbing. Alongside the walkers, we team up with BARF to host the 7x7s Mountain Race, a highlight of the NI Mountain Running Championships. It’s a fantastic day out with a buzzing atmosphere, and we’d love you to be part of it. But here’s the reality: we can’t do it without volunteers. We’re looking for LVO Read More …

Oops!

Thanks to Mark Pruzina for pointing out that the hCALF tables hadn’t been updated with the Belvoir results. Actually thay had – I had just fprgotten to upload them to the website. They’re there now; at least I know that one person is looking for them!

Final hCALF Tables

With WEE8 at Belvoir the final hCALF tables have been computed for this year. Planner Fred Hamond clearly made life difficult as no-one (that’s no-one!) beat their handicap, so the event variance was a massive 3mins7secs. Did everybody walk round the course? In the hCOW table, which gives low scores to the people who show handicap consistency, it’s Lyle Fleming who led the way with all his points scores being in single figures. He had Carol Black large in his rear view mirror with her wins (i.e. score of zero) in the last 2 events. In the Regatta table, in Read More …

Table Update after Slievenagore

The usual tables have been updated following NISeries4 at Slievenagore last Saturday. The first NISeries class winner of the year is Moire O’Sullivan with a 100-pointer in each of the events of the series (it’s 4 to count out of the 7 colour events of the year). I haven’t highlighted Moire yet for although she can’t be beaten she can be caught by Áine MCann if Áine wins the last 3 events. It also shows how officiating can come into play – Moire didn’t compete at Slievenagore; she got her points by being on the officials team. Since the hCOW Read More …

☘️ 🧭 Paul Pruzina to Represent Ireland at 2025 World Orienteering Championships!

Congratulations to LVO’s Paul Pruzina who will represent Ireland at the World Orienteering Championships 2025 in Kuopio, Finland 7-12 July. We know he’ll do us very proud. Best of luck Paul!

WEE Winners and Belvoir report

☀ Fine weather and being the final WEE in June, brought a strong field of runners out last night – about 80 participants (and a fox) enjoyed the challenge of navigating round Belvoir Park Forest and all the craic afterwards. 👏Firstly we need to thank all those involved in putting on the event, especially Fred Hammond who planned some challenging legs for us to talk about for a while and organiser, Mark Earnshaw. Others who supported the great evening were, Dan on registration/IT, Ric on downloads, Daphne on starts, mapper Bill with all the recent storm updates, control collectors Joe, Read More …
