Great turnout today for the first of our six Squad Skills sessions for TD3 and above juniors! 🧭 With the control stakes still out following last week’s NI Champs, the juniors had the chance to revisit courses or legs they wanted to improve, try different route choices, or test out alternative plans. It was LVO’s turn to host the Senior Home International (SHI) this year, the annual orienteering competition between representative teams from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Meelmore Mountain was chosen as the venue for the individual race on Saturday, with Slievenagore Mountain providing the setting for Sunday’s relays. With each team comprising 3 M20s, 3 W20s, 6 senior men (including at least one M35+) and 6 senior women (including at least one W35+), competitors could expect courses to be testing and of the highest standard. Organiser Chris Colwell is in search of volunteers during the SHI / NI long Champs on Saturday 3 October at Meelmore Mountain. If anyone is available to help out before or after their run it would be great if you could get in touch! He is looking in particular for car-parking marshalls, starts from 11.30-13.00 and an IT person on last shift (see image above).

After three glorious years, I’ve decided that it’s time to hand over the Chair role to another LVO member. I will step down at the next AGM, which will be held before 31 March 2027. I’m letting you know now so there is plenty of time to identify and welcome a new Chair and ensure a proper handover.
