Event Format | Club Meet, Coaching and Social. AΒ way to improve your orienteering skills in a social way without the pressure of competition. Taking place every 2nd Saturday of the month (except July, August and December), club coaches put on sessions for orienteers, no matter your age or level. Everyone is welcome! | |

Price | π° Club Meets are free for members of LVO, NIOA and Orienteering Ireland as well as O-Play and TD1/2 Juniors. Non-members are also welcome to attend any of our activities and events but there is a Β£3 fee for this activity. After attending three orienteering events, people must join a club so they are insured.Β From 1 May 2024, membership is only Β£6 for juniors (up to 20 years old), Β£12 for young adults (up to 25), Β£16 for seniors and Β£32 for families (2 seniors + 1 or more juniors). Terrain Summary | Drumkeeragh is forest with good runnable areas as well as forest slow run/walk. There are a networks of drains as well as intricate wooded contour areas. The forest is well used by others and has a network of paths and tracks. | |

Notes/Courses | π¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦ Groups will be organised into people with the same level of technical ability, each having a dedicated coach: O-Play – for children in P3 and under, accompanied by their parents. βͺπ‘ Technical Difficulty (TD) 1 and 2 (White and Yellow) Easy courses with all controls mostly on linear features such as paths, walls and streams. Suitable for P4 children and above and adult newcomers who want a gentle introduction to orienteering. π TD 3 (Orange) Courses use basic use of a compass and route choice. Ideal for novice orienteers or young juniors with experience (ideally aged 10 and above). π’π΅π€ TD4 and 5 (Lt Green, Green, Blue and Brown) Challenging navigation with route choice and using more contour and point features suitable for experienced juniors and adults. |

Kit requirements | π§₯π Full body cover is mandatory. If the weather is cold or wet β a waterproof jacket will be mandatory. As well as times of exercise there will be periods of coaching when you will be stationary, so layer up β bring along a hat and gloves to keep comfortable. There is likely to be a bag drop off point with a coach present or close by. NOTE: the club or coach is not responsible for the safe keeping of the kit, it is dropped off at your own risk, so please leave any valuables in the car. All should carry whistles. Bring a compass if you use and have one. Some base plate and thumb compasses will be available to borrow and try out. Dibbers are not required. | |
Parking | Parking will be at the main car park, but this is limited, so please arrange to car share if at all possible! This is a busy forest with lots of other users including horse riders. The turning circle is needed to be kept clear for 4x4s pulling horse boxes. If the car park is full, park responsibly on the road, making sure not to block gateways, entrances and allowing space for farm machinery to pass. | |
Toilets | The closest public toilets are located in Ballynahinch and Castlewellan. |
