Thanks to a grant from Orienteering Foundation, Lagan Valley Orienteers(LVO) launched its Running Wild initiative in September 2024, and the impact in its first year has been huge. More families getting involved Strong growth in club membership (up 20% in 12 months) A thriving pathway for juniors moving into competitive orienteering The dedicated Junior & Families Officer, Mark Stephens, who is funded through the grant has been key to building a fun, welcoming and sustainable community, one that’s quickly becoming a model for other clubs. As we approach the conclusion of the event year the battles are coming down to fewer and fewer individuals. The Tyrella event results show a large variation in variance (that’s the difference between your handicap and your on-the-day speed). The event variance of 52secs shows that things were “quite” tough in the dunes and that the Green course competitors had the worst of it, with none managing to beat their handicap on the day.
