🤝 Community & Connection at LVO

Community and connection are at the heart of LVO. That’s why we believe in giving back to the organisations that support our members and the wider community 💙 We’re delighted to share that LVO has just made donations to the following charities:💰 Friends of the Cancer Centre💰 The Orienteering Foundation💰 Mourne Mountain Rescue 👏 These contributions are made possible thanks to the incredible efforts of our volunteers at our annual Original Mourne Seven Sevens Walk each August. 🌟 We hope to keep giving back after this year’s walk, which will take place on Saturday 8 August 2026. 👉 Entries available Read More …

We’re Trialling Livelox – Sign Up Today!

We’re pleased to announce that the club has invested in a one-year Livelox trial subscription. Livelox and RouteGadget perform a similar core function—overlaying routes on a map so you can compare choices—but Livelox is a more modern, data-driven platform with greater automation and richer analysis. It is widely used at major international events such as OOCup and O-Ringen. Here’s why we think it will benefit our orienteering community: To help us evaluate whether Livelox is a worthwhile investment, we’d really appreciate all members creating an account and giving it a try. Map Printing and SIEntries Closing Dates

For over 20 years, we have been extremely fortunate to have a club printer, expertly operated by Alan Gartside, producing all maps for our events. This has been a tremendous asset to the club. However, relying on a single printing arrangement has occasionally presented challenges. To ensure greater resilience and continuity for our events, we now need to introduce a reliable back-up plan. Other NIOA clubs, such as FERMO and NWOC, already use external printers (for example, BML) for their event maps. These providers require map files at least 10 days in advance, with final map quantities confirmed by the Monday prior to the event Read More …

The Outdoor Partnership Survey

The Outdoor Partnership is currently gathering feedback on participation in outdoor activities, as well as the barriers people may face in getting involved. This short, 5-minute survey will help The Outdoor Partnership secure funding from the National Lottery to continue delivering outdoor activity programmes across Northern Ireland. For example, they’ve previously worked with Ric to develop orienteering opportunities. With continued funding, they’ll be able to expand this work further by partnering with governing bodies and local groups to create clearer pathways into a wide range of sports and activities. 👉 Please take a few minutes to complete the survey and support this important Read More …

🧭 🏃‍♂️ 54 Mini Kites and a Lot of Gaffling! Club Meet Relay Success

What a fantastic morning at today’s Club Meet in Lady Dixon Park! A huge thank-you goes to our brilliant coaches Philip, Helen and Olivia Baxter, along with their ever-helpful assistant Alan Elwood. More than 30 club members turned out and were treated to a lively session focused on relay skills ahead of the upcoming JK and Irish Orienteering Championships. Philip kicked things off with the help of some volunteer juniors, explaining the concept of “gaffling” — and why it’s very important not to blindly follow someone who might be heading to a completely different control! To put it all into practice, Read More …
