On Wednesday night we saw the second instalment of the May WEE Series. Around 60 orienteers navigated their way round the grounds of UUJ. How is it the accommodation block always trips me up? – A large part down to the good planning of Billy Reed. hCALF update with UUJ performances

The usual tables are available at “STANDINGS>hCALF2024”. The hCOW table shows the points (place points so the lower the better) for being closest to your handicap (once the allowance for the terrain speed has been factored in), the Handicap table shows your history of handicap variation and the Regatta table shows your points (again place points) for beating your handicap. This week saw almost a doubling of participants and congratulations to Sharon Dickenson – it’s not often a handicap can be improved by more than a minute!. hCALF is back!

With the first WEE event of the summer taking place last Wednesday, the hCOW spreadsheets have been dusted down to cover the 8-event WEE series. The “hCALF2024” tables will be available via the “STANDINGS” section of the website. At the moment the only entry shows the intial handicap settings for those members who finished the Long course at Ormeau. James Ewart selected for Lagganlia 2024

A huge congratulations to LVO’s James Ewart for being only one of twenty-four athletes who have been selected to go to the JROS Lagganlia training camp this coming August 2024. The camp is for M/W14s through the UK who show considerable orienteering talent and who have met the required high standards at selection races. The camps develop all aspects of their orienteering skills; technical, physical, tactical and mental. The camps also have a strong social aspect, meaning that some of these orienteers will become lifelong friends.
