Are you ready for hCOW?

With the first colour event of the year coming up on Saturday at Pomeroy, the hCOW2023 spreadsheet has been set up with its 228 columns, ready to receive the results of your endeavours. A list of your starting handicaps has been published as Event0 – it will be subsumed into the Pomeroy results when they are calculated. Note that it also shows, highlighted in red, those who got results in last year’s colour events (and thus got a handicap) but who haven’t yet renewed for 2023 so won’t be able to score points until they do. “Resources>OneDrive Public>hCOW>hCOW2023>Event0.pdf”

The host with the most – British Champs May 23👍

As most of you will know, together we (all three NI orienteering clubs) are hosting the British Sprint and Middle Distance Champs along with the TrailO Champs in early May this year. 🏆The British Champs are blue ribband events in the UK Orienteering competition calendar and will attract hundreds of participants from across the UK and beyond. There are already over 260 entered including elite orienteers from the GB Team. The last time a major event came our way was the JK in 2011, so it’s not everyday we have the chance to run alongside the best in the business, Read More …

hCOW is back!

With the first colour event of the year coming up at Pomeroy the hCOW spreadsheet is being readied to receive the results from the technical difficulty 5 courses (brown, blue, green, short green for NICS and short blue, short green for Club colour events). A change this year is that last year’s finishing handicaps are being carried forward so points for regularity and for improvement (Regatta) can be collected at Pomeroy. Also note that points are awarded only to current members; joining late will retrospectively adjust your handicap but will not collect points. That means you have 2 things to Read More …

🏆Club Score Champs Report🏆

What a great day! 👍Thank you to everyone who came along to compete in our first Club Championship event of the year. 🌞Weather was as great as the ‘running’ and the craic. Of course, for us all to have so much fun on the side of a Belfast hill we rely on our happy band of volunteers. Here’s a go at remembering and thanking👏 those who helped out – firstly, to Mark Earnshaw for planning, Mark Pruzina for sorting entries and behind the scene IT support, Nastia and her friend Yaroslava with a little help from myself and Gavin. 👨‍🏫Every day is a school day (well yesterday was anyway!)

All of us (60+ participants) who attended the Indoor-O at Ballyclare High School, were given a good test, courtesy of Stephen Gilmore’s masterly planning skills. Those of us with previous experience on this map, tried to use this to our advantage, but, with out of bounds and one way systems in place, it was a fresh challenge. Fortunately most of us managed to finish the examination, those who passed the harder course with distinction were: Olivia Baxter and Daniel Vasey (1st and 2nd Seniors) and Anastasia Mahlych and Luke Gardiner (1st and 2nd Juniors). 👏 🤸‍♀️Lots of our juniors did Read More …
