New Fixtures List – and a new home for the Volunteer Roster

There’s been much behind-the-scenes magic from webmaster Jeff to unify the fixtures list – it’s here and it’s rather marvellous! If you’re an organiser and baffled about how to update the info, you need to edit the event info on Facebook.  Contact Jeff (website@lvo.org.uk) or Susan (volunteer@lvo.org.uk) and we can guide you through it. The popular WEE series returns in 2018 to the competitive format of Long and Short courses with handicapped results and league tables.  The first of which will be in Ormeau Park.  Monthly prizes for league winners and runners up. As well as a midweek leg stretch and bit of craic we like to use the WEEs to introduce, train and bring on new organisers and planners. In preparation for the prize giving at the AGM on 24th March could you please return your club trophies to Gordon Simpson at Hillsborough this weekend. Steve McGibbon Trophy Nominations The Steve McGibbon Trophy is named in memory of a hugely respected orienteer and stalwart of Lagan Valley Orienteers, who unfortunately died in 2006 aged only 51.   The trophy is not focussed on competition performance, rather the award is considered as recognition of the person or group thought to have provided the most outstanding contribution to the club’s affairs in the previous year.  Nominations should be sent to the Secretary, Cecil Armstrong, secretary@lvo.org.uk Read More …

Don’t miss your run in the snow tomorrow!

Running in the snow is great! I had a lovely run in dry snow on Barnett Demesne on Wednesday. With the event at Drum Manor being cancelled, is anyone up for a run out on Barnetts on Saturday? After a warm-up we will do a “Fartlek run”. It’s important that you have studs in your shoes and are clothed appropriately for the cold weather (ie base layer, jacket/cagoule, hat, gloves and full leg cover) and bring a snack and warm drink for afterwards.
