Welcome to the Lagan Valley Orienteers membership page – We are glad that you are considering joining us and hope that you become an active member of LVO and enjoy orienteering for many years to come. Members of all clubs in Northern Ireland must also join the Northern Ireland Orienteering Association (also known as NI Orienteering) and British Orienteering. You will automatically join all 3 with a single application.
Membership of Lagan Valley Orienteers is open to anyone but the Club is normally regarded as covering the following council areas: Antrim & Newtownabbey, Ards & North Down, Armagh, Banbridge & Craigavon, Belfast, Lisburn & Castlereagh, Mid & East Antrim and Newry, Mourne & Down. Fermanagh Orienteers and North West Orienteering Club cover the remainder of Northern Ireland. Queen’s University of Belfast Orienteering Club is only open to students at Queen’s University.
There is also good cooperation with the Irish Orienteering Association. LVO members are frequently part of the all-Ireland team in the annual Home International (England v Ireland v Scotland v Wales) races at Junior, Senior and Veteran level. The Irish Championship is held in Northern Ireland every 4th year.

As a keen trail runner, I was thinking of giving orienteering a try.
Do you have any `trial` events planned to sample before signing up as a member?
Hi Norman. Non-members are very welcome to enter any LVO event. The upcoming Friday Open Orienteering Training (April, in South Down) or Wednesday Evening Event Series (May, in Greater Belfast) however would be great opportunities to come and try orienteering out.
I’m not sure that website comments are routinely monitored, but the Lagan Valley Orienteers Facebook page can keep you up to date and answer any further questions you have.

Just looking at membership for next year. I’m a student, but when I try to use the online membership form I can only select either Junior or Senior. When I select Senior there isn’t a tick box to say I’m a student, and when I select Junior it rejects by date of birth. Any suggestions?

Any reduced fee for lecturers/teachers with an academic email address (chancing my arm)

Only just seeing this now so sorry for the late response. I’m afraid there are no reduced fees for lecturers/teachers but the great thing is if you join now, your membership will run through until the end of December 2020 at 2019 prices !!
Hi Stephen, a warm welcome as a member of LVO.
Currently each Wednesday there is night training usually in one of the Belfast parks. This takes the form of a score event where one tries to visit as many controls as possible in 45 minutes. If you fancy trying this you would gain familiarity with orienteering maps, meet other club members and have someone to offer guidance. This week, training is in Belvoir Park and details will be on the website. The next daytime event is in Donard Forest Newcastle on December 3rd and details should appear on the club website. There will be a course suitable for newcomers and again assistance can be offered. Hope to see you at an event soon but should you have any further questions don’t hesitate to ask.

I’ve just signed up and paid my membership fee……I missed the Hillsborough meeting at the weekend and was wondering which upcoming event would suit an absolute beginner.
