Happy World Orienteering Day

Yes 23rd May is World Orienteering Day.  So exciting!!  Check out the BBC showing us how to orienteer………..kinda…………not sure why there’s a child in a burrow but maybe someone can help me understand that!  https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/get-inspired/24066826 So how do you get involved?  Come along to any of our sessions.  No need to be a club member, just check out the details online, arrive and tell them you’re new, and we’ll help you get started (and finished if necessary). World Orienteering Day kicks off with Stormont Estate this evening 6:30pm (details here).  Print out a parking permit (available from the link) if you want Read More …

Help FERMO – NI Sprint and Middle Distance Championships

The hard working team at FERMO will really appreciate your letting them know you are competing at the NI Sprint and Middle Distance Championships this Saturday, 12th May. A post on their website http://fermoblog.wordpress.com/2018/04/30/ni-sprint-and-middle-distance-championships/ explains how to contact them and what they would like to know (see the “Registration” section). If you can’t commit yourself at this stage don’t let this stop you competing on Saturday. You will be welcome. All the best for your race. The NIOA AGM takes place between the two races.

Planner for WEE 5 in Lady Dixon Park, 30th May

Hi folks We don’t have a planner for WEE 5 in Lady Dixon Park on 30th May, so as things stand we will just be re-cycling an old course. However, if you’ve had a sneaking feeling you’d like to have a go at this course planning lark, Richard Williamson (a very experienced Planner) has offered to mentor somebody who would like to have a go. Email secretary@lvo.org.uk or volunteer@lvo.org.uk or ring 078 1587 2010 if you’re tempted, but do it soon! Happy orienteering. Cecil

Help!

I’d like to second Susan’s post about volunteers for Wednesday night. First WEE of the season, rusty organizer and coordinator, giant influx of Beaver Scouts, … etc. Much help needed. Come to Ormeau Park early and help us get the series off to a flying start. Many thanks Cecil

WEE Series Volunteers

With the WEE Series nearly here (hooray!) we could do with a lot of on-the-night volunteers.  You will still get to run!  Please check out the volunteer roster.  If we all do a wee bit (WEE bit, sorry), well then 2018 will be another great WEE Series.  All training provided, it’s a lot of fun!  Email volunteer@lvo.org.uk   Here’s the link to the roster:  https://lvo.org.uk/volunteers/

Social Get Together at IOC

(I’m posting this fine suggestion from Ric, who says:) Hi LVOers. For all those going to the IOC next weekend I’m hoping we can maybe organise getting together socially. On the Saturday evening there is going to be a table quiz, raising some money for juniors and charity, so it would be good to have a few LVO teams. I’m also happy to organise a meal on the Sunday evening. With the guts of racing over it would be nice to get together for some good food and liquid refreshment as we talk tactics with our relay team mates and strategies Read More …

Superb open mountain training on Meelmore this Sunday 29th April.  Lots of coaches on hand, have a go at a couple of exercises and then practise it all on a course.  It’s all in conjunction with our hub Tollymore Orienteers.  Fun & informal – really high quality standard of training, right from yellow course all the way up to TD5. Ready to go at 2pm from Meelmore Lodge, we’ll be back there by 4pm ready for tea & buns. Perfect to take your O to the next level – or fine tune ready for the Irish Champs! All the info Read More …

Fixture List Gremlins

**Beware The Fixtures List**  It’s still acting up 🙁  However the mechanics are on the case.  There’s a useful post on the NI Orienteering website though, so you don’t miss an orienteering trick.  Link is here
