Unfortunately Ards and North Down Borough Council have informed us that Cairn Wood is going to be closed to the public until the end of March. This week there will be heavy machinery brought in to clear the fallen trees and then paths will need repaired. We have therefore had to cancel the LVO Club Score Champs on Saturday 22 March, with the hope to be able to reinstate this event when the forest is fit for use. ❗LVO Score Champs – Cairn Wood Update❗

Presently Cairn Wood is closed to the public due to the impact of Storm Eowyn. Forestry have said work to clear trees from paths should be completed by 13th March. When allowed, event planner, Steph, hopes to get into the forest as soon as possible, to check that the forest is suitable and safe for the event to take place. Reminder: Nominations for the the Steve McGibbon Trophy at AGM on 8 March 2025

The Steve McGibbon Trophy is named in memory of a hugely respected orienteer and stalwart of Lagan Valley Orienteers, who unfortunately died in 2006 aged only 50. The Trophy will be awarded at the AGM, happening after the Club Meet on 8 March 2025 at Belvoir (at time of going to press), starting at approximately 1pm. Nominations received are presented to attendees, who then vote at the AGM. Forest Damage Update

Thanks to all club members who have been out checking our forested maps. We have 40 maps with at least some woodland and of this 18 have now been checked. Some areas are still at least partly closed to the public so it has not yet been possible for club members to access these areas. You can see the update here.
