Extra Extra – Hillsborough Training Sat 19th Nov

To make up for the loss of the Castle Ward event on Saturday (19th), Helen and Olivia have volunteered to put on some coaching at Hillsborough Forest Park. This will start at 1100 with running training (by Allan Bogle) for all abilities, aimed at improving running style and skills. There will then be some technical training to exercise the little grey cells, starting at about 1130. Come to all or part of the session – up to you. It should finish at about 1300. It would be very helpful for map printing if you could let Helen know if you intend Read More …

LVO Club Clothing Order

I currently have 2 orders for club tops and 2 for club jackets. I need 5 of any one style before I can put in an order – and preferably 5 of each at the same time to keep the postage cost down – the relative weakness of the pound against the euro will increase the price slightly from the £25 (O top) and £50 (jacket) that earlier orders cost. You can check what size you need by referring to the measurement chart here or you can try on a fellow club member’s top (preferably before his or her run!). Read More …

WENT 3 Barnett Demesne

Another fine night last week saw 28 club members and visitors enjoy a wide ranging and splashy run around Musgrave Park in the dark. Conor’s cunning plan successfully kept everyone going for the allotted 45 minutes despite the small size of the park. This week we meet in Barnett Demesne in the car park beside Malone House. Jeff Johnston is the master of ceremonies – meet at 7.00pm for a 7.30pm mass start. As usual the time limit will be 45 minutes and the cost £2 for members and £4 for visitors (this covers the cost of printing maps and Read More …

WENT 2 at Musgrave Park

Following last week’s season opener in Ormeau, the WENT moves to Musgrave Park this evening. Conor McKernon has planned an entertaining set of challenges for all standards, so there is no reason not to be there. Let’s see if we can beat the total of 30 runners that enjoyed WENT 1 Registration opens at 7.00pm in the car park at the hospital end of the park. Mass start at 7.30pm with a 45 minute time limit. Under 16s should be accompanied by an adult. After yesterday’s rain the park may well have some surface water so bring dry socks and Read More …

WENT 1 Ormeau Park Wed 2 Nov

October is coming to a close, the clocks change on Saturday night and the Wednesday Evening Night Training series is about to start. Polish the orienteering shoes, charge the head torch battery, dig out the night running kit and turn up at Ormeau Park (main car park) on Wednesday. We are aiming for a mass start at 7.30pm so registration will open at 7.00pm. There will be a short brief on the training challenges before the start. The time limit will be 45 minutes so please make sure you have a watch or similar timing device attached to your person! Read More …

Beat the Street – Cards and Maps

If you are coming to Beat the Street activity on Saturday we have been able to source more cards and maps. So you don’t need to call at a library or Tesco in advance. Just come along to Orangefield Park at 11.30!

BOF Membership Fees

Just a reminder that if you wish to submit a proxy vote on the proposals to increase the BOF membership fees and event levy you need to do so by 5pm tomorrow (Thursday  27th Oct). The proposals and voting form are here. For reference, the current BOF membership fee is £5 (which becomes £15 total when the LVO and NIOA membership fees are added). The levy is paid by the club every time you compete and comes out of your entry fee. It is currently £1.25 per Senior, with 3 Juniors counting as one Senior.

Last Chance to Beat the Street

With the postponement of the Donard Autumn Trophy on Saturday, if you had orienteering marked in your diary for the day, then here’s an alternative. You may be aware of Beat the Street which moves on from Belfast next Wednesday 2 November. Beat the Street is pretty similar to Street-O with Beat Boxes instead of controls attached to lampposts. Instead of a dibber you need a Beat the Street Card. The maps are also provided by Beat the Street. The control description is always “Lamppost”! So here’s the plan: Assemble at the Orangefield Park carpark at Houston Park, Belfast, BT5 6AT from 11.30am for Read More …
