WEE Finale This Week – Be There

The Grand Finale of the 2017 WEE Series takes place this Wednesday at a new East Belfast venue for LVO. There will be courses, races, results, prizes and, we hope, hotdogs for all. The new venue is the Councillor Thomas Patton Memorial Park, with the usual offering of long and short courses. In addition there will be a special course for the under 16s who would normally run the long course. As the long course will venture into the adjacent Inverary estate, with a mix of park and urban orienteering, it will have to be restricted to the over 16s. Read More …

**Volunteering Update**

We have just 7 LVO events till the end of 2017 (time to get your Santa wish-list written?).  Can I encourage you all to check out the fixture list and volunteer for a role of your choice.  If you’re really keen, there are still spots available for tonight’s WEE at Botanic.  Conor is a first-time planner so please support him to make the event a success. Each fixture has a list of volunteer roles still available (click here to see the fixture list), and you can check out what each role involves here. Let’s finish the year on a high!  Email volunteer@lvo.org.uk Thank Read More …

Beat the Street is Coming!

You may have heard of Beat the Street which came to the greater Belfast area last autumn. It’s coming back again this year and LVO have formed a partnership with Beat the Street to encourage active participation with a grant from Active Belfast. So what exactly is Beat the Street? It could be best described to an orienteer as a gigantic semi-permanent urban score course with electronic punching. Gigantic and Urban – The game area covers most of Belfast and stretches out to Lisburn, Newtownabbey and Holywood. Semi-permanent – As the controls are out for a 7 week period between Read More …

Clarendon Dock WEE

I’m terribly sorry, but you should know that the Clarendon Dock WEE tomorrow evening is at severe risk. The Harbour Commission requirements for indemnity assurance appear to be more than our BOF Insurance will cover. I have asked the BOF insurers for a last minute review tomorrow morning. I will attempt to provide you with an update, but if there is no further news by 1 pm then I’m afraid we will have to cancel. Richard McCourt has put a huge effort into planning (and organizing) the event and is naturally gutted. Further news when I have it. Cecil
