JIRCs Report September 2017

I first ran in the JIRCs in Sandringham in 2012, where I got very lost in the unfamiliar terrain and head high ferns that had grown up overnight. Beat The Street in East Belfast this Sunday

Beat The Street Sundays continue – this Sunday 24th Sept it’s East Belfast.  We’re meeting at JACK Coffee Bar which is on the ground floor of Eastside Visitor Centre , beside CS Lewis Square on the Newtownards Road (beside box 25).  There is nearby parking at the health centre car park, or at Connswater Shopping Centre. Volunteering Update

Hi everyone, With just 4 LVO events left in 2017 (but lots of other non-event stuff happening, hooray!) it’s time to fill in the blanks on the volunteer roster.  Remaining fixtures are: 14th October – Donard Forest 28th October – Crawfordsburn 11th November – Tyrella 18th November – Carnfunnock You can volunteer for a Key Official role (planner/controller/organiser) or an on-the-day role.  Maybe a nice cosy MOO role now it’s getting autumnal out there???  Email volunteer@lvo.org.uk Full fixture list (including all the non-LVO events too) is here.  Look each individual event on the LVO fixtures list here to check out the roles available.

Reminder – Ballymena event POSTPONED

Just a reminder that the Ballymena urban event has been POSTPONED.  It was originally scheduled for this Saturday 23rd.  Next O adventures are this Wednesday (training at Lady Dixon, see Andrew’s post) & this Sunday (Beat the Street East Belfast, keep an eye for info coming soon). Wednesday Afternoon Training

There will be another training event this Wednesday (20th) in Lady Dixon Park. Beat the Street is GO

Beat the Street has started and the first of our Beat the Street Sunday Afternoon Sessions in partnership with Active Belfast is this Sunday 17 Sep. Meet up at 2.45pm at the brand new Girdwood Community Hub, 10 Girdwood Ave, Belfast, BT14 6EG. Girdwood Community Hub is between Antrim Road and Cliftonpark Avenue. Special Mourne Event for Orienteers

Our friends at the Mourne Mountain Marathon have created a course specially for orienteers. It’s a One Day Score Course on Saturday 16 September. Entries are for a team of 2 but we only have a few teams of orienteers already entered. and entries close this Saturday 9 September.  If you are keen to run but haven’t someone to run with of a similar ability, please do email Stephen immediately and by midnight on Tues 5 September, who will create a list of those interested with suggested pairings.

Wednesday Training

For anyone with Wednesday afternoons free: I am running a small series of training events over the winter, similar in format to the WEE, just on a much smaller scale. The first event is this Wednesday (6th Sep) in Hillsbrough Forrest. Starts from 1.30 – 2.30 and cost £3.50. 2 courses: Long- lt green, 3.7k Short- yellow, 2.5k If anyone would like to come please can you let me know to help with map printing. Please note: Sadly, Meelmore this afternoon has been CANCELLED. We have looked at the hillside and it is too wet. These things occasionally happen but don’t worry the event will be rescheduled for a drier Sunday.
