The next round of the Club TrailO Champs will be held in association with the Autumn Trophy event at Whitespots next Saturday. It will take the form of a TempO cluster of 7 decisions (how’s that for value? And even better, entry is free!). The cluster will be adjacent to the car park so make sure to give yourself a couple of extra minutes before heading off to the FootO start. The hCOW (i.e. handicap related) tables are updated by results from colour courses of technical difficulty 5. This means that only the Short Blue course results from next week’s Autumn Trophy event at Whitespots will be used for hCOW updating. Don’t forget to have your entry in by Monday evening.

At long last, I’ve got round to defining the method of identifying the Club Champ from the results of the 5 TempO clusters making up the series. It will be necessary to have participated in at least 2 of the 5 (that means that, with 2 to go, no-one is yet eliminated). Your “score” will be your average time per decision, including any time penalties (30secs) for an incorrect decision. Apologies for the delay in publishing the final hCALF results (they’re there now, click on “hCALF2024” in “STANDINGS”), but holidays and orther domestic matters have kept me away from the spreadheets. In the regularity standings (hCOW Table.pdf) Colin Smith has come out comfortably on top. Although Colin was not the quickest (see the handicap history in Handicap Table.pdf) he kept to his tempo around the Belfast parks. As to the improvers standings (Regatta Table.pdf) it was a close-run result between Olivia Baxter and Sharon Dickenson with a single point between them. There are lots of updated tables available to mull over following a very intense week of O-activity. They can all be accessed from the home page of the web site through “Resources>OneDrive Public”. Not ony one, but two rounds of the LVO TrailO Champs this weekend! The first is alongside NICS4, in Rostrevor Forest and the second in Tollymore. The venues are: LVOTOC24-2 Rostrevor car park (Yes, actually IN the car park) and will be available from 10:30 LVOTOC24-3 Tollymore Forest Park, in the woodland alongside the weekend’s camp site. Although the postponement of WEE6 (Antrim Castle Gardens) last week has reduced the number of hCALF-counting events from 7 to 6 (WEE1 was used to set intial handicaps – no points scored) the final results of both the hCOW (consistency) and Regatta (improvement) tables will be based on the best 4 scores. That means that, to get an asterisk in the hCOW table you have to have 3 WEE results behind you; in the Regatta table a non-result gets you a score one worse than the last finisher so you can still, with difficulty, climb up the table.

The Crawfordsburn results have been incoroporated into the hCALF tables. To view go to the club website and under “STANDINGS” click on “hCALF 2024”. With 4 events gone some asterisks have started appearing against those who will go into discard mode. That’s in the hCOW table in which the scores (lowest is best) are assigned for consistency of handicap; in the Regatta table it’s improvement in handicap that counts – Olivia Baxter, with 2 first places, is the one to beat.
