WEE Series – Can you read the map?

I have had representation from some more visually-challenged (i.e. older!) members about the legibility of the course overprint in the WEE series. The course setup (circle size etc.) is a matter for the planners, but what I did for Grove Park was to add a white shadow to the overprint circles, numbers and lines. Did this make the course more legible? Did anybody notice?

hCOW Table Update after WEE5 – Grove Park

The WEE5 results table and the handicap movements table are available to view in “Resources>OneDrive Public>hCOW>hCOW2021”. Things get serious next week with the first colour event of the year, FERMO’s Crossmurrin event, in which performance in the 4 technical difficulty 5 courses (brown, blue, green, short green) will be considered. The following colour events will see place points being awarded, but until it is known how many events there will be it’s not possible to define how the overall result will be computed. What is known is that there will be points available to those who are <non-active> because of Read More …

hCOW Table Updated

The hCOW table for WEE4 is now available for your perusal. It can be found in “Resources>OneDrive Public>hCOW>hCOW2021”. Also there is a table showing how your handicap has moved over the first four events; you should be able to match the movements to your good (or not so good!) performance.

Tch, Tch

My thanks to GraemeF for pointing out my error in last week’s hCOW post, where I claimed that the Botanic course length would be measured along the straight-line route because it was a Sprint course. This shows some laziness on my part in failing to keep up with the rules and guidelines changes (I must read myself to sleep with the new 103-page version!). The post-Botanic positions (using the correct course length) are now available at “Resources>OneDrive Public>hCOW>hCOW2021”. Along with the publication of the Lady Dixon performances next week I shall post a table showing how handicaps have moved over Read More …

hCOW WEE tables updated

The hCOW results for Barnett’s are now available at “Resources>LVO Public Folders>Public>hCOW>hCOW2021”. No-one who ran at Ormeau managed a faster run at Barnett’s. The event variance of 2:23mins/km shows how much slower was the less manicured woodland and the additional climb. With 29 folk carrying over a result from Ormeau this means that, rather counter-intuitively, 14 of you saw a reduction in your handicap. Don’t forget hCOW is there to reward consistency, not speed. Next week’s event, at Botanic Gardens, will be the first hCOW event to be based on a sprint map. For that the course length is measured Read More …

hCOW awakes!

I am using the long course of the WEE series events to run an hCOW series but as WEE is an activity, not a competition, I will not be calculating place points as in previous series. Instead, I will be publishing your event by event handicaps to allow you to see how you are progressing (or not!). Paragraph 3 of the hCOW definition doesn’t apply – if you’re a member you’re in. If I’m doing the sums correctly what you should be able to see is how a good performance (or a faux-pas!) affects your handicap and thus try to Read More …

Colour Standards (again!)

May I wish everyone a Happy (and safe!) New Year. The Colour Standards table has been reset for the incoming year. That means that the 2019 record has been removed as it falls outside the retrospective 1-year window used for calculating the standards. The incoming year’s events have been added (all 2 of them!) and hopefully some semblence of order will be returning to the fixture list so that you can build your standard up again (there’s a NY resolution for you – attend every colour event in the year!). The table also shows your membership status and there is Read More …

Covid Cup Final Scores

The Covid Cup is the replacement, in these exceptional times, for the Spring Cup and Autumn Trophy and is based on Spring Cup 1 at Parkanaur, Autumn Trophy 1 at Divis and Autumn Trophy 2 at Donard, using place points and taking the best 2 results out of the three. The results can be found at “Resources>LVO Public Folders>Club Colour Series”. Congratulations to all who kept going through the year and especially to those who contributed their time and effort to putting on the events. Happy Christmas!

hCOW2020 Champion(s)

The hCOW results, following last Saturday’s Donard event, have been computed. It’s congratulations to Harry Bell and Colin Smith who share the consistency title. My praise for the senior Pruzinas in my last post seems to have been the kiss of death for Mark (have a look at Routegadget!) but at least he can take satisfaction from leading the place point standings, whatever way you want to look at them. I’ve still a bit of thinking to do about handicap management so the 2021 series will be a clean start – all we need now are fixtures!

Colour Standard Update

The colour standards table has been updated with the results of the Donard event and can be found, along with the history table (also updated) at “Resources>LVO Public Folders>Colour Standards”. With only one NISeries event this year the opportunity to reach or maintain brown or blue standard was not available (now there’s a New Year Resolution if ever I saw one!). The table shows, in upper case, the 3 results counting towards your current standard; it also shows the best standard achieved during the year i.e. the best 3 results in any 12-month window ending in 2020 (that’s what transfers Read More …
