The Bovine Returns

I don’t know if the MOO will be at this summers WEE series but at least hCOW will be in action, with handicap calculations being applied to the Long Course results. With the variability of the technical difficulty, from Hillsborough bomb craters to Antrim Castle parkland to UUJ urban terrain, your handicaps may show more fluctuation than those of the colour events but at least they will allow you to track the reasons for your good (and bad!) results and hopefully improve your performance. Until the August events appear in the fixture list the number of counting results can’t be Read More …

Tables now available

If you haven’t jetted off to South Wales for the JK you can still get some O-kicks by reviewing your performances over the last few events by way of the club folders, now available via the link “Resources/OneDrive Public”. In “Club Colour Series” can be found the final Spring Cup table – that’s based on place points with the two lowest scores to count. In “Colour Standards” can be found your present standards situation with the best 3 results in the last year to count. This also shows that there is still a trickle of new members (welcome, Anastasia and Read More …

Tables Updated following Drum Manor and Divis

The NISeries, Colour Standards and hCOW tables have been updated following the last two events. Unfortunately there is a fault on the website whereby the “OneDrive Public” link requires a password to access the folders. If anyone wishes to peruse the tables in detail let me know and I’ll send them a copy. The NISeries tables are available on the NIOA website. In hCOW, where it’s place points that count, miserly Moire O’Sullivan is leading the way amongst those with 4 results to their name; in the 3 results group Aine McCann has a one-point lead over Ric Gamble. Until Read More …

First hCOW2022 tables published

The results from the first three colour events of the year have now been processed through the hCOW ringer and can be found at: “Resources>OneDrive Public>hCOW>hCOW2022” In addition to the event results an initial series table is included; it is in handicap order. The first two columns show the place points achieved (Gosford was used for setting initial handicaps); the number of events to count will be determined when the year’s colour event programme has been finalised. At the moment Ben Cairns is in pole position with a measly 8 points to his name! The last three columns show how Read More …

Table Update post-Gosford

The Colour Standards table has been updated with the Gosford results. The criteria for determining colour standards varies from that used in the results publishing system so if you think you lost out have a look, you might be pleasantly surprised. The table also confirms your membership status; if you’re pink or yellow you are not currently a member so have not been assigned a colour standard or NISeries points. “Resources>OneDrive Public>Colour Standards” The NISeries table has gone for publication on the NIOA web site but you can find a copy here: “Resources>OneDrive Public>NI Series”

Tables Updated

The Colour Standards table has been updated with the Meelmore results. As Green is the highest standard so far achievable this year no-one has reached a higher standard under “2022 Standard” but the “Current Standard” column shows your present standard , which may have been achieved in 2021. “OneDrive Public/Colour Standards/Colour Standards.pdf” The interim tables for the Spring Cup have also been published. They are based on place points with 2 out of the 3 events to count. An innovation this year (requiring ratification by the Committee) is to allocate points to the event organising team members in a similar Read More …

Colour Standards Table Updated

The Colour Standards table has been updated with the Woodburn results. Worth a look, as the criteria for awarding NI Colour Standards is different from that used by SportIdent. The capitalised entries show the results contributing to your current standard; the 2022 standard needs an entry from this year (i.e.Woodburn) so may be different. There were a few folk registered as LVO but records show they are not current members; their standard has been applied as appropriate but may be rescinded later if a membership update is not forthcoming. They can be identified by being highlighted in pink or yellow. Read More …

hCOW2022 is go!

Woodburn sees the first colour event of the year so, in line with last year’s operations, it will be calculated on the results of the Green course. No place points will be awarded – your performance will be used to initiate your handicap (your orienteering speed!) for the remainder of the series, which will be made up of club colour and NISeries using courses of Short Green and above (i.e. technical difficulty 5).

Happy New O-Year!

The Colour Standards table has been rolled forward for 2022. This involved removing the 2020 entries (except for the last, Donard on 12/12/20 (which still counts towards some folks “best-of 3-in-12-months” current standard), and adding the anticipated 2022 colour events There should be more to come e.g. Autumn Trophy series and NI Colour Series 5. Let’s make the first NY resolution to maintain or improve your standard (or gain one if you haven’t done so already). The table also shows your current membership status so for too many folks there’s a second resolution to get yourself out of the pink Read More …
