After the flat grassy terrain of Ormeau the hilly woods of Belvoir certainly made their mark – for the first time to my recollection nobody beat their handicap! That doesn’t mean that some handicaps have not come down. When the results are arranged by variance (handicap minus event speed) it’s the middle of the list who keeps their handicap unchanged – it’s a way of taking account of the different terrains that make our sport so fascinating.
Their are now tables for consistency (hCOW), where the aforementioned middle-of-the-list scores best, and for improvement (Regatta) where the lowest variance scores best. This year, with 7 scoring events it will be your 4 best scores which count.
