Whilst normal orienteers would be resting up after their Drum Manor outing yesterday, LVO’s intrepid fixtures team spent their Sunday planning our event locations for the next FIVE years! Planning this far out helps us to do a couple of things:
1) It means we can make sure our maps are updated in time, ready to go for the season when they’ll be used.
2) It gives our volunteers enough time to plan, organise and control the courses.
3) It allows us to see gaps in the terrain maps that we’d like to use, and look for access to new areas where orienteering would be challenging and fun.
4) It also means we can rotate our maps, so that areas are not overused and orienteers don’t become too familiar with them (so that they run with their eyes closed!)
The events will come up on our fixtures list soon, and we look forward to speaking with our members to hear how they can help make this five-year plan a reality.
Fair play to you all. This is incredible. Thank you
Thanks Paul – exciting times ahead!
