Junior Training at Ormeau Park

A number of the junior squad got the chance, thanks to Alison, to practice the key skills of attack point and route selection at Ormeau Park on Sunday 17 May. This was a great chance to practice these key skills and you had to keep you whits about you as all those bushes start to look the same when running at speed. Our next training is on the 31 May at Botanic and QUB. Get it in the diary now.

Well Done

Congratulations to all involved in staging the very successful IOC events over the weekend. It was a very ambitions programme in terms of the number of events and the new technologies to take on, with the weather on Saturday testing to the limits the spirits of all involved. I received today a lot of congratulations and thanks to be passed on to all of the LVO members. Also I would like to thank Robin Strain (ELO) who made a very valuable contribution to the production of results. Well done everyone Harold

Be a TrailO Champ – from alan gartside

If you’re looking for something to do on Sunday afternoon after your relay exertions why not come along to Aberdelghy Golf Course and enter the Irish TrailO Champs?  Entry-on-the-day still leaves you eligible to become Champion – all you have to do is beat the others!  You can also measure up to the many British TrailO Squad members who are coming across as this is a BOF Ranking Event for TrailO.

Juniors Set the Pace

Club juniors got the chance to confirm pacing for 100m on the flat, up hill and down hill at Stormont Estate. This is a really useful and vital skill for orienteering. Our next session is on the 17 May at Ormeau Park. Be sure to make it along.

No IntrO @ Stormont – from alan gartside

With emphasis on the IOC weekend, there has not been an opportunity to set up an IntrO event alongside SC2 at Stormont.  The next TrailO event, counting towards the Club PreO Champs, will be the Irish TrailO Champs on Sunday 3rd May at Aberdelghy Golf Course.  It provides an excellent opportunity to accumulate big points (21 controls) in one go; you can still get an entry in via the IOC website (preferable) or turn up for entry-on-the-day (if there are sufficient maps left).

Competition Round Up

Juniors from LVO had a great time at the JK2015 in the Lake District in Cumbria over the Easter Weekend. This was a mix of urban racing around Lancaster University on the Fri evening and technical longer races over a mixed terrain of  hills, open moor and forested areas on the Sat and Sun. The relay race took part on the Mon. It was a demanding few days but the weather was great over the weekend and all juniors really enjoyed themselves and did very well given the difficulty of the courses. A big congrats goes to Luke C for Read More …
