Juniors took part in training on attack points at Slieve Garrron on the 5 Oct. The aim of the game was to find a small training kite, hidden on a feature, by locating a more obvious attack point marked on the map with a cross and on the ground with red and white tape. All juniors managed to avoid getting eaten by a goat as well!!
Hi all check out the scores on the doors for the junior incentive scheme. Lots of people qualifying for awards and the first few getting a participation award. Great going everyone.
The Junior Home International is a competition held between teams from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales every year, with the location cycling between the four countries. This year, the competetion was in the Brecon Beacons in South Wales, with the individual race on Mynedd Llangatwg and the relay race on Clydach terrace. LVO was well represented with Eoghan Knight(M14), Jill Stephens (W16), Paul Pruzina (M16), James Millar (M16) and Harry Millar (M18) all running for Ireland. The Individual race area was open mountainside, with very gradual contours so not much to navigate by if you got lost, making relocation very difficult. Waiting for a bus – or the compass test On the 15 Sep the Junior Squad took part in a training session with a twist in Hillsborough Forest Park. Thankfully the rain had stopped and it was a dry event. The aim of the day was to get round a course of about 2 km and on the way round complete four stands. These stands covered compass use, map symbols, pacing and control descriptions. The course wasn’t easy with a section of control picking in the forest that required all the skills taught before the summer. Some people did very Read More …
Looks like we have enough people now to run the training at Hillsborough Park on the 15 Sep. It will be a great day so make sure not to miss it. We will be running a course with a difference. There will be a timed event with a series of special control stands on the way round covering (1) pacing, (2) map symbols, (3) control descriptions and (4) compass work. Some juniors have confirmed already. Come along and have a go but make sure you let me know.
The new junior training schedule is out. Check it out on our training page. Make sure you let me know in time if you intend to come along. Hope to see you all at the events.
A team of Juniors helped to run the World Police and Fire Games Middle Distance race at Barnett’s Demesne on the 8 Aug. It was a great day and the Juniors, Rachel, Andrew and Luke, were a great help in setting up and running the starts.
Wednesday in Scotland on the Six Day was a rest day. Our team made the most of it as you can see. Buried in sand and, if you look very hard, dolphin spotting. Thursday was back to O. Rachel has a great run coming 3rd out of 36 in the W12A – way to go girl. Ben and Luke both had improved performances but Peter had a mp – it happens to us all and I’m sure the remainder of his run was great. On Friday the move was to RAF Kinloss, giving Luke and Dad the chance to play Read More …
The Scottish Six Day is a great way to meet people of your age, including those from other nations – there are 52 runners in M10 alone for example. Luke has struck up a chat with a Spanish boy in his age category and met up with a friend from last year’s Welsh Creoso event. Our team has had a demonstration of free running from the lads from Moray Orienteers as well. How cool is that. On the orienteering front LVO Juniors have has had a steady performance. On day 2 Rachel was doing really well on the 5th control (leading Read More …
