We’re pleased to announce that the club has invested in a one-year Livelox trial subscription.
Livelox and RouteGadget perform a similar core function—overlaying routes on a map so you can compare choices—but Livelox is a more modern, data-driven platform with greater automation and richer analysis. It is widely used at major international events such as OOCup and O-Ringen. Here’s why we think it will benefit our orienteering community:
- Easier to use: Routes can be uploaded automatically from our GPS devices, removing the need to manually draw or upload GPS files once at home, making it quicker to get involved in route analysis after events.
- Instant, mobile-friendly access: Events can be viewed on your smartphone as soon as they close, allowing you to compare routes and discuss races before even leaving the event—no laptop required.
- More accurate analysis: Real GPS tracks provide a clearer picture of route choices, pace and mistakes compared to manually drawn routes.
- Better comparison tools: Improved replay and head-to-head analysis features make it easier to learn from others and understand performance differences.
To help us evaluate whether Livelox is a worthwhile investment, we’d really appreciate all members creating an account and giving it a try.
How to set up your Livelox account
1. Go to www.livelox.com
2. Click “Sign up” (top-right corner)
3. Create a User Account (Name, Email, Country, Username, Password)
4. Scroll down to Try Livelox Premium for free. Select ‘No thanks, continue with Livelox Limited’ for a free account, then ‘Create Account.’
5. Your account will automatically open on your ‘My User Account’ page.
6. Join the Club on Livelox: Go to My User Account → Clubs → Add a Club. Search for Lagan Valley Orienteers and add it.
7. Connect a GPS device: In My User Account > Connections to route-providing application, you can link your Garmin, Polar, or Suunto account so routes upload automatically. See screenshot below for recommended choices. On your User Account afterwards, under Privacy, your Default Route Access Mode will be marked as Public, which is our preferred option to provide shared learning. Connection to a GPS device is age-dependent, so if not possible, manual upload once the event is live is the way to go (See below).

8. Start using it at events: The Ballykelly NICS event is already set up and will go live after the last start (13:00). If you’ve added LVO as your club and your Garmin/Suunto/Polar account is connected, your GPS track should appear automatically after you finish, ready to review on your phone: https://www.livelox.com/Events/Show/183010/NICS-2-Ballykelly
9. If GPS Device Connection isn’t an option, Manually Upload Route: Select the tab My Club Events on the start page. Click on the event, then Add a route. Confirm the person that the route belongs to, and click Upload file. The recent Castleward and Stormont races have already been uploaded, so if you were at those events you can manually upload your tracks now to play with the system.

If you run into any issues, contact Mark Pruzina who will steer you in the right direction (entries at lvo.org.uk).
We’ll continue to support RouteGadget during this one-year trial period, but we strongly encourage everyone to create an account before Saturday, try Livelox, and share your feedback with us to see if it’s worthwhile.
Thank you for helping us make the most of this trial.
