Mapping Update

The Mapping Team* met in January 2026 to review plans for the year and agree how best to use our limited volunteer mapping resource to keep LVO’s maps as up to date as possible, with a focus on supporting upcoming events:

  • Mapping support has been assigned to all major events in this year’s calendar, with the team providing limited, targeted updates where needed to support planners.  Planners are requested to make contact early and to aim to use better areas of maps, rather than requesting significant re-maps.
  • Work is underway to develop a single, up-to-date inventory of all current maps, including known storm damage and other issues, so planners are always using the latest versions and are aware of any limitations.

The team also discussed future mapping priorities, in response to the loss of many of our best technical forest areas over the last 2 years. The aim is to deliver one or two new TD5 maps this year, with a pipeline of other areas identified for mapping in future years. Several promising potential areas have been identified and will be further investigated to secure access and permissions. Once these details are confirmed, we will obtain quotes from professional mappers and return to the committee with costs for review and approval.

We appreciate the patience of the membership so far as the mapping team deals with the consequences of recent storms and we look forward to providing further updates throughout the year.
