World Orienteering Championships 2023

Congratulations to LVO’s very own Paul Pruzina with his achievements so far at this years World Championships.

Over the last few days Paul has been representing Ireland in the stunning Flims/Laxx area of the Swiss Alps – someone has to I suppose!

The Middle Distance Qualifying races took place on Wednesday. These races determine who gets into the final and their starting positions, with the fastest qualifiers starting last in the final.

After qualifying for the Men’s Middle Distance Final, Paul was the 8th starter out of the field of 61. He had 5.9km of technically challenging terrain ahead of him with 220m climb in heat not usually found in NI. Paul had a steady, strong race, gaining positions and finishing in a very respectable 49th position – great stuff!

Paul has one last race tomorrow in the relay where he leads off the Irish team, passing over to Colm Moran, with Ruairi Short running the anchor leg – Good luck lads!
