Junior Squad Time Trial

For juniors wishing to be considered for JHI, EYOC or JWOC please read the message below from Coleen Robinson, IOA Juniors Representative. The selection criteria for these are here. An explanation of JHI, EYOC and JWOC (+ JIRC + JROS) can be found here.

The time-trial referred to by Colleen is here.

Good morning everyone

The annual time trial will take place in the Phoenix Park on Saturday, 29th February.

The time trial is compulsory for those who are interested in being selected to run in EYOC and JWOC and is recommended but not required for those interested in selection for JHI.  Please note that are welcome.

The trial is run over a route of approx. 1.2 km with 60m climb on a mix of road, grass and steep muddy terrain (orienteering shoes with studs strongly recommended).  Please see map attached for the route.

M18s and older run 4 laps, M16s run 3 laps.

W18s and older run 3 laps, W16s run 2 laps.

M14s and W14s may run 1 or 2 laps if they wish.

There will be more details to follow but please plan to arrive by 11:00am to ensure adequate warm up.  The running of the trial should be completed by 13:00.  Parents please let me know if you might be available to help with timing, etc.  We will need some volunteers on the day.

Josh has kindly agreed to organise some training in the Park for afterwards.  He has some excellent exercises planned – challenging, fun and even “chaotic”…your focus will be tested.  The training should begin by 14:00.

Note there is a Leinster League event in Brockagh on the following day – should you wish to make a weekend of it.

Please let me know if you intend to come as soon as possible – Tuesday 25th February is the deadline.   I will need to know the name, SI number and year of birth of the juniors involved (so we can figure out who is M14, W16 etc.)

Please note that a consent form will have to be filled in beforehand.  I will be sending a link to everyone to register as junior squad members on the IOA Club Force app.  As mentioned previously this will become our main channel of communication.  In order to complete the registration process a consent form for each member will have to be uploaded.

Many thanks to Ruth and Josh for planning and organising this training day and to Dave Masterson their tech guru!

We look forward to a great weekend of training and orienteering

Colleen
