Event Description
— THIS EVENT WILL BE ONLINE PRE-ENTRY ONLY — This is because Belfast Parks do not permit transfer of money on their land.
The year’s final Wednesday Evening Event is at Barnett’s Park with excellent courses planned by James Earnshaw.
Newcomers are very welcome – don’t hesitate to visit registration where experienced orienteers will be happy to answer queries and give advice!
Social and WEE Prize Distribution
To mark the end of the WEE Series we are planning again to put on Hotdogs for all participants – online pre-registration this week is particularly important as it will help with catering.
Prizes for both the June and August Series will be presented, shortly after courses close, approximately 8.15pm.
Registration
Registration/download will be near the carpark. If you have pre-entered and have an SI card you can proceed to the signposted start. If you need to hire/change a card please find registration.
Registration open from 6.15PM. Starts from 6.30PM -> 7.30PM.
Vehicle parking
If arriving by car please park in the Northern car-park off the A55, for Malone House. There should be ample space for all cars, and plenty of places to lock bikes.
There are no public toilets sorry.
Courses & Terrain
Long course – 4.1 km, 15 controls
Short course – 2.1 km, 10 controls
Very fast running open playing fields in the north with more difficult running forest and vegetation (expect patches of dense undergrowth) as you approach the Lagan River in the south.
Some controls may be situated near/around mountain bike trails. Not all of these are mapped, and you do not have priority. If using one as a route choice: stand to the side for approaching bikers.
Controls will be SIAC enabled with punching start/finish.
Entry
Prices – SENIOR £5 (member), £7 (non-member) | JUNIOR/STUDENT £3 (mem/non-mem)
The max charge to enter as a family is £13 (non-members £17).
SI card hire is free.
Safety
Full leg cover is highly recommended on the long course for some of those rough-open areas!
Be aware of cars and other pedestrians: both courses may cross the carpark or internal entry road. Please note that courses close (& control collectors will be dispatched) at the earlier time of 8:00pm sharp, this is due to failing light and the need to analyse the results before the prize distribution. If you think you will take >1 hr book an earlier start time!
Covid-19
There are currently no Covid restrictions for events however we would ask that participants continue to apply common sense to limit the spread of infections.
