Registration, Start and Finish Start Times – 11:00 – 14:00

Registration will be close to the event parking, but across the main road – there will be a marshal, but please take care!

Start and Finish will be co-located and approx 900m and 60m climb from the parking.  Please allow sufficient time to get there!  There will be no formal clothing drop, but you may bring a bag and leave it close to the start/finish if you wish.

*Family is the equivalent of 2 seniors + 1 junior.

There is no fee to hire an SI card if required, but lost cards are charged at £30. Sociable group / family fee where all are going round a course together – entry fee is per required number of maps i.e. one entry = one map.

There is a £3 / €4 fee for car parking. NO CHANGE WILL BE GIVEN.

Terrain Summary Open mountain terrain with many intricate contour and rock features.
Dogs NO DOGS ALLOWED  –  as this event is on open mountainside with livestock.

Course Notes There is no White course, as it is not appropriate to the open mountain terrain.

🟡 Yellow – 1.9km +90 m climb – along paths with more route choice decisions. Appropriate for newcomers and younger juniors with some experience.  Not suitable for buggies!
🟠 Orange – 2.1km + 95m climb – skills needed to navigate away from paths and more route choice decisions, some compass skills are expected. Aimed at novice adults and improving juniors.
🔴 Red – 3.4km + 125m climb [Leinster League ONLY] – skills needed to navigate away from paths and more route choice decisions, some compass skills are expected. Aimed at novice adults and improving juniors
🟢 Light Green – 2.2km + 115m climb – this course requires confident map reading and compass skills.
🟢 Short Green – 2.0km + 100m climb – this course is set at the highest technical difficulty but shorter to attract those who may struggle with a longer physical course.
🟢 Green – 3.2km + 165m climb – technically and reasonably physically demanding course.
🔵 Blue – 5.4km + 210m climb – technically and physically demanding course.
🟤 Brown – 6.75km + 300m climb – technical and very physically demanding course.

  • All maps will be A4 and 1:10,000 with 5m contours
  • Blue and Brown courses will have a map flip.
  • All controls will be SI Air enabled, except Start and Finish which must be punched.

NOTE: This event is also doubling up as the LVO Club Champs, so if you wish to be deemed competitive within the Championships you must pick the correct colour relating to your AgeClass. It will be assumed that you are running your default AgeClass. Participants who chose to ‘run up’ a course will be deemed competitive in higher age categories BUT MUST THEN DECLARE which AgeClass they are competing in by midnight on Wednesday 18th, by emailing the event organiser through SI entries. Participants can also choose to ‘run down’ and although they will not be deemed competitive for the Champs, their result will still be counted in the NICS and BOF ranking. See table below:

This is the race where the coveted gold and silver shoes are awarded, given to the male and female athletes who post the fastest times from the final control to the finish line on the light green course and above.

Results Results will be published by Colour and LVO Champs Classes. Leinster League results will be published by 3ROC.
First Aid and Safety There will be a first aid and a qualified first aider available at registration. Registration is also a safe place for lost children to wait.

Please do not come to the event if you are unwell.

Please bring and carry any medication you might need, especially inhalers and EpiPen’s.

If you come across an injured or ill person, please stop, help and get further help. There will likely be qualified first aiders on the course who can stop to provide support.

All participants must return to download, whether they complete the course or not. This is to account for all competitors, ensuring everyone’s safe return.

Courses will close and controls collected in at 3pm sharp. If you are still out on the course at this time return to finish and download immediately.

Kit requirements Full body cover is mandatory.

A whistle (emergency alert is 6 loud blasts per minute) is mandatory.

A waterproof jacket may also be mandatory if the organisers decide the weather requires one, so bring one along just in case.

Note: The Kilbroney Vintage Show will take place on the same day as the event (Europe’s largest classic vehicle show!). Traffic could be slow in Rostrevor as a result. If approaching from Newry, you may prefer to go via Hilltown.

  • Main parking – will be in a field opposite Bann Road.  £3 / €4 entry on the gate to the parking marshal. Bring cash – no change will be given.  Route to the start is across the main road – there will be a marshal, but please take care!  
  • Large Vehicles / Campervans at the Equestrian Centre. Pay £3 to the site owner.
  • Campsite & BBQ parking – at Tollymore is included in the Social fee.

Toilets Nearest public toilets in Kilkeel, The Square.

There is 1 toilet and a small Cafe at the Equestrian centre.  Please be polite and courteous.  No dobs allowed!
