| Terrain Summary | Tollymore forest is a great place to discover the sport of orienteering. It has a network of paths and tracks to help navigate, as well as runnable forest with a variety of features. The forest is popular with hikers, runners, dog walkers, horse riders and mountain bikers, so take care and treat others with courtesy. | |
| Previous Maps/Routegadget | Tollymore was last used for a club Autumn Trophy in 2022. Routegadget can be found here: https://www.lvo.routegadget.co.uk/rg2/#480 | |
| Notes/Courses | This week we will learning all about aiming off, as explained in this 4-minute video.
When you’re navigating to a linear feature (like a path, stream, or fence) near your control, instead of aiming directly for the control, you deliberately aim slightly to one side (left or right). This way, when you hit the linear feature, you’ll know which direction to turn to reach the control, because you’ll know which side of it you’re on. |
