Event Description

Following hot on the heels of Donaghadee, like Ciara Mageean behind Laura Muir, we have the next round of our 2022 NI Urban League.

Forget about Pan’s Labyrinth, and even Jim Henson’s Labyrinth. You know us: In OCO we like to go above and beyond, so why not come and join us for a Bank Holiday afternoon of Fun and Frivolity, and probably a few choice words.

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️2 runs for the price of one over the shorter distance. 3 classes available as per usual – Open, Medium, and Short. The second course will have a chasing start, with the leaders from the first course starting first. You will be given your second course start time when you download after your first course. The times for the two runs will then be combined to give a final result for each runner.

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️Course lengths:

Optimal course lengths will be approximately Open: 3.5km; Medium: 2.7km, Short: 2 km

  • Unaccompanied under 16’s must do the Short or Medium Course.
  • Beginners and family rambles please enter the Short Course!
  • Novices with a little experience can have a go at the Medium if they fancy a little challenge.

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️SIAC: Please Note: SIAC will not be enabled so remember to punch the controls.

Parking and facilities:
🅿 Parking: This will be at the Edenvilla Multi Sports Pitch Facility, Batchelor’s Walk, Portadown. (What3words: safety.movie.spirit)
🚻  There are limited Public Toilet facilities on site.

🍴Other facilities – It is hoped that there will be a small mobile café unit at the nearby Church. There is also a garage just down the road for other sustenance. If we’re lucky there may be an Ice Cream van.

🐕‍🦺 Cats & Dogs: Whilst they are more than welcome in the park. They are not allowed on the Second Run.

✅Registration, Start, Finish and Download will all be situated in the car park.

Registration: From 2 p.m. if required to collect a dibber.

Start times: in 15 min windows. First Start block is from 2:15. Last start window for the first run will be 3:15 – 3:30. If you have entered online and have your own dibber, you may proceed directly to the start.

First Course will close at 4 p.m. If you think your first run will take longer than 45 minutes please book an early start time!

At the end of your First run, proceed back to Download, where you will be given your split times and a sticker with your start time for the Second run. Stickers must be taken to the start of Race 2 to aid start officials.

Second run starts are calculated on a Base Time of 16:00 plus the time of your First run – this will be an exact time including seconds. For example, if you took 15:33 minutes, your start time for your Second run will be 16:15:33.

A mini-mass start at 16:45 will be used for anybody taking longer than 45 mins for their First run, plus anyone who mis-punched or did not finish, etc.

Course 2 closing time 17:30.

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️The Chasing Start format:

Each course consists of two races – Race A and B, which will be run consecutively. Race A will be a standard format with competitors starting in their preferred start block from SIEntries. Race B will have a chasing start, based on the times taken for Race A. The winner of Race A will set off first, at Base Time (16:00) plus however long they took in Race A. The other runners follow in order, according to how long they took on Race A, and try to catch up with those in front. The format means that the first runner (on each course) to cross the finish line of Race B will be the overall winner, making an exciting spectacle for both competitors and spectator.

🏡Terrain: What can I say: Its park and urban, and one of our most fun, small areas.

💚Safety:
Traffic – Only the Open course may incur some traffic. This should be light. The Highway Code must be obeyed at all times.
Other users – Watch out for pedestrians, dog walkers, cyclists.
Natural hazards – There may be occasional nettles, but not significant to require full leg cover.

Download – all participants must download, reporting in at the end of your run.

👋New to orienteering?

Don’t worry there will be someone at registration and the start to welcome you and answer any questions. Say hi to the person on registration where you will pick up a dibber/SI card (electronic timing device) then go to start where you will pick up a map and off you go!You are free to go round the course on your own, as a pair or a group/family unit. For families or friends going round together, one entry = one map, so if you would like to go around as a family or group and share a map, just enter one person and that name will appear on the results! 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Looking forward to seeing you there!

    1. Hi Nigel, not sure why this was happening but with the deadline for Donaghadee passed, it seems to be working fine now.
