Event Description

Come to around to the ‘Dee for the 5th event in the 2022 Northern Ireland Urban League.

This area was last used in 2021 and a MapRun course, as part of the October Outdoors in 2022. It is a mix of urban estate streets, parks and a small wood.

Traffic – Most of the area has roads with light traffic, but the medium and long courses cross the A2 coastal road. The Highway Code must be obeyed at all times.
Other users – Watch out for pedestrians, particularly around the town centre.
Natural hazards – There may be occasional nettles, but not significant to require full leg cover.
Download – all participants must download, reporting in at the end of your run.

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️Course lengths:
Provisional lengths subject to final controlling, Long 7.5k, Medium 5.5k and Short 2.1k.
These are optimal lengths, so the shortest distance if you choose all the correct route choices. The Short Course is designed with juniors (Under 16s) in mind, only crossing access roads. Under 16s must be accompanied on the Medium and Long courses.

Parking and facilities:
🅿Parking – Parking will be at Cromelin Park. This is accessed off Moat Street singed by blue “P” parking sign. The access is between Donaghedee Free Presbyterian Church and JAZ Hair and Beauty. If the carpark is full there should be sufficent on street parking along Moat Street. Ulsterbus service serves Donaghadee from Banor and service 7 from Belfast and Newtowards.
🚻 Public toilets are located along the seafront parade.
🍴Other facilities – There are various options for food around the town.

  • If you didn't have a clean run, visit the Copeland Distillery and purchase some hand sanitizer.
  • Search out the locations for the BBC Hope Street series.
  • Call at the Cabin for an icy ice-cream.
  • For younger kids try out the new playground at Lennons Wharf along the seafront.

✅Registration, Start, Finish and Download will all be situated close adjacent to the carpark.
Starts are from 12.00pm – 13.00pm. If you have entered online and have your own dibber, you may proceed directly to the start.

👋New to orienteering?
Don’t worry there will be someone at registration and the start to welcome you and answer any questions. Say hi to the person on registration where you will pick up a dibber/SI card (electronic timing device) then go to start where you will pick up a map and off you go!

You are free to go round the course on your own, as a pair or a group/family unit. For families or friends going round together, one entry = one map, so if you would like to go around as a family or group and share a map, just enter one person and that name will appear on the results! 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Looking forward to seeing you there!
