PARKING and ASSEMBLY
Parking and assembly will be in the forest drive car park and will be sign posted from the entrance to Kilbroney Country Park on the coast road. At assembly there will be two portaloos, plus the LVO MOO (Mobile Orienteering Office).
START
This is one kilometre uphill through the forest from the car park. It is a half hour walk up a forest track. There is limited room for warming up. Limited clothing transfer will be available if the weather is poor. Call up is at minus 3. Immediately after starting ( PUNCHING START ) SOME courses cross a stile. The starter will slightly stagger the starts to allow all to cross this safely. Late arrivals will be started at the discretion of the starter.

TERRAIN
There is a mixture of open fell (good running), ungrazed open land (slow running) and forest which offers the full range of running speeds.
There is a new mountain bike track network. Please remember that bikers may be travelling at speed. They expect, and have priority, so respect this and be vigilant should you stray onto any of these tracks. This is a sheep farming area, with sheep and this seasons lambs out at present. Please avoid frightening them.
A new one kilometre fence has been erected both north and south of the start area. This is substantial and should not be crossed unless via a stile. There are two crossing points marked on the maps and these should be used.
MAP
The scale is 1:10000 with 5 metre contours. Pat Healey re-surveyed the area in summer 2016.
Maps are printed on waterproof paper and are either A3 or A4 (see table below)

FIRST AID
This will be available at the MOO trailer in the car park. It is clearly marked Lagan Valley Orienteers. Anyone retiring must report here to avoid a search operation being instigated.
WHISTLES and CAGOULES
As competitors are running on the open mountain whistles are mandatory. Depending on weather conditions you may be required to carry weatherproof jackets so ensure you bring one.
