Event Description

In preparation for the British Middle Distance Championships, LVO are offering Middle Distance training runs at Hillsborough Forest in the late afternoon/early evening of Friday 5 May. Start at anytime between 16:00 and 19:00. Start times are not allocated, just turn up and go to the start.

Note that the courses on offer will be the same courses for LVO’s Spring Cup event on Saturday 15 March. Courses on offer are Short Blue, Short Green, Orange and Yellow. Controls will be SIAir+ enabled and download splits will be available.

💛YELLOW – 1.9km climb / 15m – for younger children & family groups, as well as more cautious new adults

🧡ORANGE – 2.6km / 30m – for children & family groups moving on from yellow, as well as more adventurous new adults

💚SHORT GREEN – 3km / 45m – difficult orienteering, though not as physically demanding as the biggest course. Generally for experienced orienteers, though a VERY adventurous new adult might give this a bash.

💙SHORT BLUE – 4.5km / 65m – difficult orienteering, our most challenging course on offer/ Tracks/paths/rides will be on the map, unlike at the 15 April Spring Cup event. However there are some maps available with no tracks/paths/rides marked. Hillsborough is mostly a white runnable forest, with small hills and with areas of contour detail.

Clothing & Safety:

Full length leg cover is very strongly advised. Please return to download at the Village Centre after finishing, even if you do not complete the course.

Directions, parking, and location information:

Hillsborough is the most visited forest in NI,  so we will be using the car park at the Hillsborough Village Centre at Downshire School, 7 Ballynahinch Rd, Hillsborough BT26 6AR but NOT the forest car park. Registration and download will be in the car park.

Ulsterbus express service 238 may also be used from Belfast Europa Buscentre. The walk from the bus stop at the war memorial to the carpark is only 350m. See www.translink.co.uk/timetables for details

There will be a short walk along the main road to access the side gate into the forest, please stay on the footpath available on the left of the road and be careful crossing the road to the gate.  Once in the forest there is 5 minute walk to the start. The finish is near the gate, please return to the car park for download.

Toilets:

HRP is responsible for toilet facilities at the Fort and Courthouse which are closed at the moment. However, the toilets at Main Street car park and the forest play area in the park will be open.

Refreshments:

Hillsborough village has a number of good cafes, hot food outlets and pubs. Please move your car out of the carpark after your run if remaining in the village to eat.

  1. Hi, we did not enter this training online in time. Is there any chance of bying an open course/extra map or two if we go there early (difficult course)?

Best regards Tim and Iben Falck, Denmark
