Event Description
📣 Club Meets – a way to improve your orienteering skills in a social way without the pressure of competition.
📍 Parking and Registration is at Hillsborough Parish Church, Main Street. NOTE: there is a one way system in place, use the right hand gate to enter. There is limited parking, so please car pool if possible. There is additional parking at the forest park.
📆 Taking place every 2nd Saturday of the month (except July, August and December), club coaches will put on sessions for orienteers, no matter your age or level. Everyone is welcome!
👨👩👧👦Groups will be organised into people with the same level of technical ability, each having a dedicated coach.
⚪🟡TD 1&2 (White & Yellow) Easy courses with all controls mostly on linear features such as paths, walls and streams. Suitable for primary school children and adult newcomers who want a gentle introduction to orienteering.
🟠TD 3 (Orange) Courses use basic use of a compass and route choice. Ideal for novice orienteers or young juniors with experience.
🟢🔵🟤TD4&5 (Lt Green & above) Challenging navigation with route choice and using more contour and point features suitable for experienced juniors and adults.
💬For example, at the first two club meets, TD2 worked on identifying and using line features and junctions to navigate; TD3 this month are looking at how control descriptions relate to the map symbols and the what they actually look like on the ground, as well as a few more compass skills. TD4&5 have worked on more advanced skills such as on relocation and map simplification. Some feedback from our first Club Meet in Nov 2023:
“Great coaching in a friendly environment for a newbie like me.”
“Learnt loads! Really good explanation from coaches, broke it down so it was easy to understand.”
“Good to meet other folk, chat and learn from them.”
“Loved it, will be back.”
💰 FREE! Club Meets are free for club members.
Non-members are also welcome to attend any of our activities and events but after three sessions we expect you will love it so much you will want to join the club!
⏰ Assembly and briefing at 10.30am sharp. Arrive by 10.15am so everyone is ready to go at 10.30am. Coaching sessions will end at 12.30 and afterwards we are all invited to bring along a packed lunch and socialise afterwards. Facilities to make tea/coffee will be provided.
🏃♀️ Why not arrive a little earlier and take part in the Hillsborough Forest ParkRun. What about a chocolate prize for the LVO member with the highest % Age Grade? One condition – you must wear your LVO kit to help raise our profile! Here is the link to the ParkRun page: home | Hillsborough Forest parkrun | Hillsborough Forest parkrun
