As most of you will know, together we (all three NI orienteering clubs) are hosting the British Sprint and Middle Distance Champs along with the TrailO Champs in early May this year.
🏆The British Champs are blue ribband events in the UK Orienteering competition calendar and will attract hundreds of participants from across the UK and beyond. There are already over 260 entered including elite orienteers from the GB Team.
The last time a major event came our way was the JK in 2011, so it’s not everyday we have the chance to run alongside the best in the business, and show off our hospitality, in our own back yard. ☘
Like all orienteering events there are courses for all ages and abilities, so it’s not all about those on the island off our east coast, we can take part too! I would like as many of us as possible to take up this fantastic opportunity. We also need as many happy volunteers as possible to support the smooth running of the event. By ‘as many as possible’, I really mean, ‘every member possible – all of us’! 🙂
So, this is a big call out to everyone in LVO to ‘club together’ and make this a great weekend for everyone.
📆The Sprint Champ races are on Saturday 6 May and the Middle Distance event is on the following day, Sunday 7 May. There is also a TrailO event on the Saturday evening after the Sprint.
Over the two days, we need about 1️⃣5️⃣0️⃣volunteer roles to be filled. So, it is going to be a real club effort from us all!
💰The early (cheapest price) entries deadline is this Sunday (5 March), so, all those who are planning on entering, please go ahead and do so – if you can, select ‘Open (Helper/Parent Split)’ as your Preferred Start Time and we can sort out your start time to fit in with a volunteering role beforehand or afterwards.
Maybe you’re not planning on running – we still need your help as there are lots of roles to be filled.👏
👨👩👧👦Are there family members, friends, groups you think might like to help – get them involved too!
The really important roles, such as planners, controllers, organisers and their assistants are already in place; with the mapping and planning well under way. Fermo and NWOC are managing the starts and Mark Pruzina is putting a tech team together for both days. 👍
But there are plenty of other roles that any of us can help with, here are a few examples – course marshal, car parking attendant, downloads, enquiries, announcer, set up, take down and kit transfer/transport.
We will sort you out with a time and role which best suits you – join the rest of the club, indeed join the the British, Irish and European orienteering community this exciting weekend!
Please fill out this form to help me sort the volunteer roster: British Champs Volunteers are Amazing!
Many thanks – in anticipation!
