Juniors welcome, but those under 16 MUST be accompanied by an adult.
This is a MapRun activity. Before you leave home you MUST have MapRun app installed on your smartphone and to have the file downloaded. Event Safety Advice:
We want to ensure our events are as fun and safe as possible for all participants. Although injury and ‘stranger danger’ incidents are rare we must keep vigilant and it is important to remind you of how you can help prevent incidents and keep safe. Please follow the instructions given at the briefing and follow the following advice:
- U16s to be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the activity
- Whistles are mandatory – use in case of emergency – 6 short loud blasts every minute until help arrives. There is a duty of care on all participants to stop and help and get further help. You may also wish to carry a mobile phone.
- Carry all necessary personal medication where appropriate (inhaler, EpiPen).
- Ensure your head torch has good battery power.
- Wear bright/hi-viz clothing – this helps you be seen by other participants and park users and a deterrent to anyone who may wish to cause harm.
- If the forecast is cold/wet a waterproof jacket is mandatory, also bring a hat and gloves.
- Return to download and register your return after 45 minutes, even if you have not completed your course.
- There will be first aid available at the Start/finish.
- Traffic – be particularly careful crossing roads and around the car parks. Use marked crossing points and give way to all traffic and other pedestrians. Obey highway code.
- Please avoid shining your torch directly at cars and pedestrians.
- Terrain – the ground is slippery with steep slopes, so wear trainers with good grip and bring spare clothing to change into afterwards if needs be.
- Stranger danger – If in the unlikely event that you are approached by a stranger with ill intent, call out and blast your whistle. Please report all incidents and concerns to the organiser.
- Safeguarding – it is everyone’s responsibility to ensure participants are and feel safe. If you have a concern regarding inappropriate behaviour the NI Orienteering safeguarding officer, safeguarding@niorienteering.org.uk Alternatively you can use this online form: Incident Reporting
