Event Format Coaching for NIOA Junior Squad members, in preparation for the Irish Orienteering Championships in May 2026.

Registration closes Wednesday 18 March at midnight
Start Times Arrive 9.45am for briefing and group preparation. Coaching takes place 10am to 12pm.

Control gathering 12pm to 12.30pm.

Price Free for members of NIOA and Orienteering Ireland.

Kit requirements What to wear – Carlingford can have cold/wet/windy weather at this time of year (Slieve Foye weather: https://www.mountain-forecast.com/peaks/Slieve-Foy/forecasts/588). Full mountain gear is required: Rain-jacket, full length leg cover, extra base-layer, hat and gloves.

There is likely to be a bag drop-off point with a coach present or close by. Although a coach may be around to keep an eye on it, any left possessions are your own responsibility.

What to bring – Whistles mandatory. Compasses will be useful. No dibbers required.

Parking Long Woman’s Grave has space for around 7-8 cars. Car sharing is a must!

If we run out of space, cars will be parked on the two lay-bys leading up Carnawaddy mountain (700m up the road), and participants will be shuttled down.

Toilets No toilets in area.

Nearest toilets are the Quays, Newry or cafés/petrol stations in Omeath.
