What to Expect in 2026

In May/June, young orienteers will learn the core skills needed to confidently complete an Orange-level course, including:

1. Cutting Corners
2. Compass
3. Aiming Off
4. Attack Points
5. Plan & Picture
6. Route Choice

After the summer break, we step it up. This autumn block focuses on progressing from Orange to Light Green standard, introducing:

1. Distance (on track)
2. Distance (off track)
3. Understanding contours
4. Contours with distance and direction
5. Simplification
6. Relocation

The programme is free for members of LVO and other NI orienteering clubs, making it a fantastic opportunity to develop skills, fitness and confidence in a supportive team environment.

Whether your child is new to orienteering or ready to move beyond beginner courses, this programme provides structured progression in some of Northern Ireland’s best terrain.
