A WEE report for Antrim Castle Gardens

🌤A lovely late summer evening welcomed those who took part yesterday at Antrim.

🏃‍♀️Another good turn out, with new and returning newcomers, joining us for a fun evening exploring the park and the surrounding area.

🗺Lovely to plan and to run on the updated map (thanks Bill). Whilst mulling around having tea and buns, there were lots of compliments regarding the planning by Peter, another junior in the club who has got involved in this months Series. Unfortunately on the Long course, the leg planned to have the trickiest route choice (6-7) had a gate opened, so, for fairness, this leg was taken out of the results. In fact control 7 was also vandalised – I trust it wasn’t by any of those who took the legitimate long way round to see the gate lying wide open! 😉

There were plenty of other opportunities to choose a bad, good and best route choice on other legs and the start on the other side of the road added interest (and some confusion) from the beginning.

This was the third of four events in the (handicapped) August WEE series – so lets see who the leaders are with only one more event, at Barnett’s Demesne to go:

Short Course

1st Jennifer Dawson W10 (286), 2nd Richard McCourt M80 (200), 3rd Rory Mason M10 (199). Lots of people very close behind these three, so watch out.

Long Course

Men: 1st Simon Reeve M45 (292), 2nd Keith Dawson M40 (264) and in joint 3rd Mark Earnshaw M55 and Dee Orwin M65 (263).

Simon looks set to win this series but all to play for behind him.

Women: 1st Stephanie Pruzina W55 (199), 2nd Gillian Wasson (192), 3rd Sarah Gamble (180).

Juniors: 1st Matthew Crothers M20 (205), 2nd Zach Murphy M18 (182), 2nd Euan Kennedy M14 (162).

👍Thank you to Dan (coordinator), Peter (Planner), Ric (planner mentor and starter) and Mark E (starter), Alan for printing maps (as always!) and result/analysis and Geoffrey for taking care of the handicap system.

🌳So next week we are visiting Barnett’s Demesne for the final WEE of the Series. Some good woodland as well as more open parkland to explore. As well as technically more challenging, with steeper ground it will be a good physical work out too.

🌭So you will be ready for a hotdog afterwards. As is the tradition, we celebrate the end of the WEEs with some hot food and prizes for the podium placed participants from both the June and August WEE Series’.

Hope to see you there – please don’t forget to pre-enter (by Sunday 20th). We need numbers for maps and catering and there will be no method of payment on the day. Thank you!
