LVO go for Denis Rankin & Bob Graham Rounds

(corrected live tracking link added)

This weekend the Tollymore Festival of Orienteering wasn’t just a big enough challenge for some of our members.

In the early hours of Saturday morning (2am) Greg McCann will start on the Denis Rankin round with his partner Jim Patterson, veteran fell runner and local legend. They plan to walk the complete route in under 24 hours. A previous attempt missed out by 30 minutes but additional training, revised strategy and planning should be the recipe for success. The back up team includes Tich and Aine McCann. We wish them every success.

As if that wasn’t enough long distance action, Alan and Andrew Elwood will be going for the Bob Graham round, 42 peaks in the Lake District inside 24 hours. They will start at 7pm on Saturday evening. Back up team includes another father and son team of Billy Reed (Bob Graham round member number 1924) and Peter Reed.

Andrew is supporting the Children’s Heartbeat Trust via a Virgin Money Giving page (great job Andrew and if anybody wishes to add their support just follow that link). The trust has helped his little sister, Charlotte, who will be supporting back at home with mum Sarah. Alan and Andrew’s progress can be followed live on Open Tracking. Again we wish them every success.

(Jim Patterson is also a Bob Graham Round member – number 130).
