Event Description

The first June WEE takes us to the lovely grounds surrounding Ballymena Academy. This is a new map and area for us all to explore. It is also Peter Gamble’s (a student of the school) first time planning and he has a treat for all participants!

Parkland style running!

Welcome: As well as club members, we welcome everyone including newcomers and especially the group of juniors from Ballymena schools who will be using the June WEEs for an inter-school league –  best of luck everyone!

There will be someone available at registration to help newcomers with any questions or queries.

Terrain: The grounds are made up of a mixture of fast running and slow technical bits through patchy woodland. Courses are planned to avoid most of the brambles but on some areas of the long course the nettles have really shot up in the last week so be advised to wear full leg cover. Even some areas of forest run (white) have knee high nettles, so consider the areas marked as having undergrowth carefully (green stripes).

Provisional course details:

Short 2.4km, 20m climb, 15 controls.

Long 4.2km, 25m climb, 23 controls.

Parking: The school operates a one way traffic system. We will be using the first car park you come to, which you will see up to your right on the way up the drive. Parking is adjacent to the Start and Finish. Registration for those needing to hire a dibber will be in this car park.

Facilities – There will be toilet facilities. Sorry, no dogs allowed on the site.

Entry: is online using SiEntries. The first time you enter online you need to register with SiEntries (enter an email and a password) after which they will send you a link to log in and it should be straightforward.

Late entry and Entry on Day (EOD) is possible but it is added hassle, it will cost members an extra £2. So, members please note, if you wish a long map reserved and save £2, enter online before midnight of Sunday 29 May.

Safety: Please be aware of, and be courteous to, other users of the school facilities. Both the Short and the Long course will cross school service roads. There are a number of traffic calming measures in place, so traffic should be very slow but please be careful both as a runner and a driver.

The courses will close at 8:30 pm sharp, so if you are still out there at that time please report to the finish and download so that we know you aren’t missing. The controls will be lifted after that time and you will be searching for something that isn’t there any more!

Do not attend if you have Covid or are displaying Covid symptoms and at the event keep good control measures such as hand hygiene and social distancing.

Wishing you all a fun run!
