SUMMARY:Score Training 2 - Crawfordsburn Country Park
DESCRIPTION:Score Training 2 - 45 min score around Crawfordsburn Country Pa
rk.\n\nParking\n\nMeet in the upper car park near the wildflower meadow on
the road out of the Country Park. Start will be nearby.\n\nToilets\n\nToi
lets are down at the other carpark near the café.\n\nEvent Info\n\nThis i
s the second of two training activities\, (i.e. not formal\, so no results
published)\, to help prepare us for the LVO Club Score Champs on 12 Febru
ary.\n\nScore events do not have a fixed course but a fixed time to collec
t as many controls as you possibly can\, choosing your own route within th
e time limit.\n\nThere is a 'mass' start - everyone starts at the same tim
e and so\, in theory\, should all finish together 45 minutes later - so it
is a fun\, social event.  The start will still be a punch start\, and th
ere will be a punch finish.\nRegistration at 1.30pm.\nBriefing at 1:50pm.\
nWe will split into groups again so that the experienced orienteers can st
art and then pick up the map\, while novices can have a couple of minutes
to look and plan and perhaps discuss their route choice first. Score orien
teering is where you choose your own route to visit as many controls as yo
 u can within a 45 minute time limit\, (30 mins for juniors).\nCrawfordsbur
n has 4 main areas so check out how you want to approach each of these and
where to go first to optimise your points. The area is hilly so again you
should consider what will be the fastest and most achievable route for yo
 u.  Scoring the same as last week ie\n101 – 110 worth 10\n111- 115 wort
 h 20\n116- 120 worth 30\n121- 123 worth 40\n124- 125 worth 50 points.\nThe
re is a 10 point penalty for every minute or part of a minute over time. T
he time limit is 45 mins or 30 minutes for younger juniors.\nBe careful\,
the Scout Centre to the west of the map is fully fenced with only one acce
ss road in and out. There is an error on the map showing an open gate in
the NE corner of the fence but this gate will be locked. Also within the S
cout area a small path alongside the fence made of a raised board walk is
in a dangerous state of disrepair. Do not attempt to use it.\nOther safety
points are as usual – the terrain will be muddy and slippery\, there ar
e steep slopes and open water in the river. I have marked the main car par
k out of bounds and you should not run across it\, but you will have to cr
oss the access roads which can have a surprising amount of traffic. Be awa
re of and considerate to other park users.\nKit/Equipment\n\nShoes with go
od grip are recommended due to the slippery slopes and leaf accumulations.
\n\nThis is a non-competitive activity and everyone is welcome to attend.
You can go round as an individual or a pair/group.\n\nAll the usual kit\,
full body cover\, compass plus a watch to keep an eye on your timing. Ever
y minute (or part of a minute) late will have a 10 point deduction.\n\nIf
weather is poor a whistle and waterproof coat may be mandatory.\n\nEntries
and Cost\n\nIf you intend to go\, please message Ric Gamble chairperson@l
vo.org.uk by Thursday 26 Jan\, for the correct number of maps to be printe
d.\n\nPayment will be 'on the day' - cost includes map and SI dibber (elec
tronic timing) hire. Please bring correct change if possible.\n\nNote:\n\n
Map bags may not be available\, so if you have one\, please bring your o
wn waterproof map cover. \n Lost dibbers are charged at replacement cost
£30\n\nThis is a non-competitive activity and everyone welcome to attend.
You can go round as an individual or a pair/group.\n\nMembers: Senior £4
 \, Junior £2\, Max charge for family (2 adults + n children\, each with o
wn map) £10.\n\nNon-members: Senior £6\, Junior £2\, Max charge for fam
ily (2 adults + n children\, each with own map) £14.\n\nFamilies or group

ore than three events are not covered by our public liability insurance.
\n\nRefreshments\n\nWe hope to have tea/coffee and buns again afterwards.\
n\nWe are being environmentally friendly and disposable cups will not be p
rovided so please bring your own 'keep' cup.\n\nThere will be an honest bo
x for donations towards our Junior programme.\n\nClub Kit Shop/Order\n\nWe
