errain Summary\nDonard Forest lies overlooking the seaside resort of Newca
stle and Dundrum Bay from the lower slopes of Ulster’s highest mountain\
, Slieve Donard. As a result\, the terrain is quite steep in places. The G
len River divides a mixed forest and is bridged by several forest roads. I
t includes some reasonably runnable deciduous areas as well as plantation
and dense vegetation. A significant amount of recent felling and storm dam
age has affected the area\, with the map showing Out Of Bounds areas (OOB)
to avoid the worst of these.\n\nDue to storm damage some smaller / indist
inct paths are partially obstructed by fallen trees and branches.  All ar
e passable\, but some may be a little slower than anticipated and they may
be harder to distinguish on the ground.  All the 'main' paths are clear
and fully passable.\n\n\n\n\nPrevious Maps/Routegadget\nDonard Forest was
last used for an Autumn Trophy event in December 2020. Routegadget map and
courses can be found here: https://www.lvo.routegadget.co.uk/rg2/?#428.
However there have been recent changes due to felling and storm damage. A
copy of the revised map and OOB areas will be available to view at registr
ation (YMCA Greenhill).\n\n\nCourse Notes\nThe NI Score Championships will
be 60min for Seniors and 45 min for Juniors\, with the following classes:

 M Junior 14-\nW Junior 14-\nJunior Score\n\n\n\n\n Senior course: TD1-5\,
  35 controls\, 800 points maximum\, 60 mins\, -20 points per minute or par
 t thereof for late finishers.\n Junior course: TD1-3\, 25 controls\, 500
points maximum\, 45 mins\, -10 points per minute or part thereof for late
finishers.\n Controls will vary in value from 10-50 points each depending
on location and technical difficulty.\n Due to recent forestry work and
storm damage\, some large areas of the map have been marked out of bounds
for safety reasons\, since the map is no longer accurate in these areas. I
n other areas\, changes to the maturity of the forest and various new path
s / MTB tracks have been updated for the event. Copies of the revised map
and OOB areas will be displayed at registration.\n Leaf fall in recent mo
nths may make some tracks less distinct so be careful reading the map to d
istinguish tracks from indistinct tracks and also walls from ruined walls.
\n The Senior course extends to both sides of the Glen River. For the saf
ety of all competitors\, the river is out of bounds and must not be crosse
d other than at marked bridge crossing points.\n Planners tip: the area i
s very steep - consider elevation changes carefully when making route choi
ces!\n Because there are no road crossings involved this year\, juniors a
re allowed to run the senior course under the W/M open category. They need
to let Registration know on the day\, as SIEntries cannot record this int
ention. If a junior runs up on the senior course\, they are not eligible f
or any of the junior score titles.\n\n\n\n\nFirst Aid and Safety\nThere wi
ll be a first aid and a qualified first aider available at registration. R
egistration is also a safe place for lost children to wait.\n\nBe aware of
other forest users – particularly walkers and mountain bikers - as this
is quite a busy public amenity\, especially at weekends.\n\nPlease do not
come to the event if you are unwell.\n\nPlease bring and carry any medica
tion you might need\, especially inhalers and EpiPen’s.\n\nIf you come a
cross an injured or ill person\, please stop\, help and get further help.
There will likely be qualified first aiders on the course who can stop to
provide support.\n\nAll participants must return to download\, whether the
y complete the course or not. This is to account for all competitors\, ens
uring everyone’s safe return.\n\nCourses will close and controls collect
ed in at 3pm sharp. If you are still out on the course at this time return
to finish and download immediately.\n\n\nKit requirements\nFull body cove
r is mandatory.\n\nA whistle (emergency alert is 6 loud blasts per minute)
is mandatory.\n\nA waterproof jacket may also be mandatory if the organis
ers decide the weather requires one\, so bring one along just in case.\n\n
\nParking\n\nParking (available for free) is in the Donard Forest public c
ar park. There is no parking permitted for this event at the YMCA Greenhil
l site where registration is located.\n\n\nToilets\nThere are public toile
ts in the main car park\, with other options beings plenty of cafes/pubs w
ith facilities in the town and the Newcastle Centre along the promenade. P
lease note there are no toilet facilities available at registration/finish
(YMCA Greenhill) or to the starts\, so please go before climbing uphill f
 rom the car park.\n\n\n
