SUMMARY:NI Night Champs - Portgenone Forest
DESCRIPTION:LVO are hosting Part 2 of a NIOA double whammy on the 13 Novemb
er.\n\nAfter loosening up on the middle distance courses at NICS Drumnaph\
, take the short trip (13 miles/24 mins) over to Portglenone Forest for th
e NIOA Night Champs.\n\nPortglenone Forest is a lovely mixed\, ancient woo
dland about 1/2 mile from the town centre on road to Ballymena.\n\nTerrain
and Courses\n\nIf you have never tried night orienteering in a forest bef
ore\, this is the place to do it. The criss-crossing courses are contained
within the an area of about 800m wide and 500m deep and surrounded on the
north by a fence\, east and south by a wall and the west by the River Ban
 n. So if you get lost it won't be for too long because a path or boundary
will be nearby to help relocate.\n\nNight courses are all classified as TD
5 level\, so all participants must be aged M/W16 or over.\n\nThere will be
three courses\, Long\, Medium and Short. You may choose to run any course
but to run competitively for the championships please choose the appropri
ate course. If you choose to run up a course you will be entered for the a
ge category closest to your own age\, unless you inform the organiser othe
 rwise beforehand.\n\nLong (3.9km\, 22 controls): M18\, M20\, M21\, M35\, M
 40\, M45\, M50\, W21\,\n\nMedium (3.3km\, 19 controls): M16\, M55\, M60\,
 M65\, M70\, W16\, W18\, W20\, W35\, W40\, W45\, W50\, W55\, W60\,\n\nShort
  (2.6km\, 17 controls): M75+\, W60\, W65\, W70\, W75+\n\nDue to the criss-
cross nature of the courses\, to avoid confusion\, all three maps will hav
e a map change (flip over map halfway round).\n\nSafety\n\nAt this time of
year\, full arm and leg cover and a hat are highly recommended.\n\nWhistl
e and head torch (with plenty of battery power) are mandatory\, also bring
a waterproof jacket as it may be made mandatory by the event officials.\n
\nIf retiring - return to download at car park (SE of map) and inform offi
 cials.\n\nStart information\n\nStarts will be from 17.30 until 18.30 and c
ourses will close at 20.00.\n\nStart and finish will be next to the car pa
rk.\n\nCar Parking and Toilets\n\nCar parking - the forest park is situate
d just off the road in the SE corner of the park. It is being kept open fo
r our sole use and the Forest Service have kindly chosen not to charge for
parking.\n\nToilet block situated in car park will be available.\n\nEntri
es\n\nEntry will be on Si Entries.
