try = one map.\n\n\n\n\nTerrain Summary\nCastlewellan Forest Park is domin
ated by the park’s centrally located lake\, the eastern end of which is
mainly typical parkland with scattered mature trees\, the forest carpark a
nd visitor centre\, and a large campground.\n\nDue to storm damage\, we ha
ve had to make the courses less technical and shorter than we wanted them
to be.  Perhaps between orange and light-green\, and mostly based on path
s.\n\nThere has been constant path clearing of fallen trees by the council
service\; and several mountain bike trails still remain closed with uncle
ared fallen trees. Where possible these have been marked out-of-bounds\, o
r marked on the map with an X. There may be others\, so please be careful.
A recent and new small network of paths near the walled garden has been r
ecently added.\n\nThere are also many areas of undergrowth (brambles\, net
tles etc) especially along path edges and plantation margins.\n\nThe area
is popular amongst mountain bikers\, and despite the darkness\, some biker
s may be out on the trails at this time of the event. There are many MB tr
ails in the area north of the lake marked on the map\, some of which look
obvious route choices. We have put advance public event notices in the par
k to advise mountain bikers of our event in the hope this will act as a de
terrent to bikers on the night.\n\nCourses are also planned to avoid comin
g into close contact with the main lake which dominates the ground of the
forest. Keep away from deep water!\n\n\nPrevious Maps/Routegadget\nCastlew
ellan map was last used at the NICS on 25 June 2022. Previous routegadget
map and courses can be found here: https://www.lvo.routegadget.co.uk/rg2/
#472\n\n\nCourse Notes\n\n\n\n\n\nThe NI Night Championships will have the
following classes:\n\nEntry is by Class. Competitors can choose to run up
a class\, e.g. an M50 may want to run the Long course but must then compe
te as M Open. Conversely\, if you want to run a shorter course then select
the closest age class for that course  - but note that you will be deeme
 d non-competitive for the class.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCourse\nClasses\n\n\nL
 ong (approx 4.9k\, 100m climb)\nM/W Open\n\n\nMedium (approx 3.2k. 60m cli
 mb)\nM/W Vet 45+\,  M Super Vet 55+\n\n\nShort (approx 2.0k\, 25m climb)\

ishes to run the NI Night Champs\, they can only do so by being shadowed
by an adult\, and by being therefore non-competitive. LVO has a duty to ju
niors and so no M/W14 can run unaccompanied i.e. run competitively at th
e NI Night Champs. The adult must be an experienced orienteer holding curr
ent club membership who is capable of shadowing the junior for the entire
length of the course.\n\n\n\n\n\nFirst Aid and Safety\nThere will be first
aid and a qualified first aider available at registration. Registration i

event if you are unwell.\nPlease bring and carry any medication you might
need\, especially inhalers and EpiPen’s.\nIf you come across an injured
or ill person\, please stop\, help and get further help. There will likely
be qualified first aiders on the course who can stop to provide support.A
ll participants must return to download\, whether they complete the course
or not. This is to account for all competitors\, ensuring everyone’s sa
fe return.Courses will close and controls collected in at 8.30pm sharp. If
you are still out on the course at this time return to finish and downloa
d immediately to prevent the event safety team searching for you.\n\n\nKit

s 6 loud blasts per minute) is mandatory.\nA waterproof jacket may also be
mandatory if the organisers decide the weather requires one\, so bring on
e along just in case.\nA fully operational and charged head torch is manda
tory.\nCarrying a mobile phone is advised. We intend to record this mobile
