SUMMARY:NI Colour Series 2 - Woodburn
DESCRIPTION:Woodburn Forest is the location for the second Colour Series ev
ent of the year.\n\n🏃‍♀️Courses\n\nYounger\, older\, newcomer or
experienced\, whatever your age or ability there is a course for you. Ever
yone is welcome to attend including non-members and newcomers. Newcomers p
lease say hello at registration\, there will be someone at hand to talk yo
u though things and give advice.\n\nIn addition to the normal full range o
f colour courses we are adding a Red course:\n\n❤ The Red course is spec
ifically aimed at runners who have little to no experience of using a map/
navigation but happy to go out for a 5km on/off trail run (Straight line d
istance 4.4km\, 45m climb - but remember you won't always be able/want to
go in a straight line). It will have a similar technical difficulty\, TD3\
, to the shorter Orange course. Runners from a couple of local clubs have
been invited. The Red course can be treated competitively but is not part
of the NI Colour Series league.\n\n🤍 The White course is for our younge
st juniors - short and easy navigation (Technical Difficulty - TD1\, lengt
h 2km\, climb 25m). If the kids get on well they can go back to start and
ask to do the Yellow.\n\n💛 Yellow is for juniors who can read a map and
able to make simple navigations at path junctions - it is a little longer
(length 2.7 km\, climb 25m) than the white and slightly more technical -T
D2. If the kids get on well they can go back to start and ask to do the Or
ange.\n\n🧡 Orange is for improving juniors and novice adults who want a
shorter distance. The navigation will be on and off tracks with options o
f cutting corners through the forest. Some basic compass skills are advant
ageous but not essential. Technical Difficulty - TD3. Straight line distan
ce 3.2 km\, Climb 45m.\n\n💚 Light Green is the next step up in distance
and navigational skills\, TD4. This course requires the ability to use a
compass. It is best suited to intermediate orienteers. Straight line dista
nce 3.5 km\, Climb 40m.\n\n💚 Short Green (straight line distance 3.4 km
Climb 50m)\, along with 💚Green (straight line distance 4.4 km Climb 55
 m)\, 💙Blue (straight line distance 6.1 km Climb 105m)\, and 🤎 Brown
(straight line distance 6.9 km Climb 120m)\, are all of the highest techni
cal difficulty\, TD5. The difference is the distance of the courses. Parti
cipants will choose what course best suits their level of fitness.\n\n🚗
Parking\, Registration and Toilets\n\nPlease use Woodburn Presbyterian Chu
rch Carpark. The fisherman's car park is adjacent to this and can be used
as an overflow if necessary.\n\nRegistration/download will be situated in
the car park and toilets will be available in the church hall - no dirty s
 hoes please!\n\n💻Entries and Cost\n\nMembers: Senior £10\, Junior £5\
, Max charge for family (2 adults + n children\, each with own map) £25.\
n\nNon-members: Senior £12\, Junior £6\, Max charge for family (2 adults
  + n children\, each with own map) £30.\n\n👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Newc
omer Non-Competitive and want to go round in a pair/group - Families\, gr
oups or pairs wishing to go round together sharing a single map will only
be charged for one entry. e.g. two senior (non-members) running round toge
 ther = £12. A family of two adults and a child (non-members) = £12. Just
make one on-line entry. Please note\, to be classified as competitive wit
hin the NI Colour Series League you need to run individually and be a curr
ent member of LVO.\n\nCost includes map and SI dibber (electronic timing)
hire. Note: lost dibbers are charged at replacement cost £30. \n\nOnline
Entries close midnight on Monday 13th March. There may be a few more maps
printed but if you enter on the day you will not be guaranteed a map for
the course you wish to run\, you will also be asked to run after the last
booked runner to ensure they have map priority. If there is good reason yo
u cannot pre-enter please let the organiser know beforehand (forgot to ent
er in time and waiting to see what the weather is like do not count as goo
d reasons 😊).\n\n\n\n🚦Start\, finish and course closure\n\nStarts fo
rm 1130-1300. If you have your own dibber please go straight to the start\
; if not\, please visit registration first to collect a hire dibber.\n\nCo
urses close and controls will be collected in from 1500.\n\nAfter finishin
g your course please ensure you go and download before heading home - it i
s really important for us to ensure everyone gets back safely and prevent
an unnecessary search party going out.\n\n🐶Dogs allowed\n\n👕Clothing
and Terrain \n\nIf the weather is poor it may be mandatory to wear a rai
n proof jacket.\n\nAll the usual recommended kit - full leg cover (no shor
ts)\, whistle and a compass if you can use one.\n\nShoes with good grip ar
e recommended due to the steep\, muddy\, slippery paths and slopes.\n\nWhi
te and yellow courses will stick to or close to main paths/tracks. Other c
ourses will require participants to use smaller muddy paths and go off pat
hs over rough ground. There are think parts of the forest which competitor
s are likely to wish to navigate around rather than through.\n\n🎬 Take
2\n\nLyle had to take a second look when out planning - film crews were in
filming a Christmas Movie - Santa says forest is generally runnable but d
efinitely parts he would struggle to get his frame through - more suitable
for his reindeer or keen orienteers.\n\n
